leaf spring/height help

hey everyone, i broke a front leaf spring yesterday and I'm trying to replace it but I don't know what size it is.

I tried to measure the center hub to fender but it's dark and incredibly windy and cold here so idk how accurate my measurments were.

It appeared to be around 26" and everyone seems to think my truck has 4.5" leafs. I've checked all the part numbers and they don't match up with anything online

Part # 19784 on the rear springs.

if you happen to know the factory ride height for a 1985 straight axle I would appreciate some input and I will try to get a more accurate measurment tomorrow.

"Part # 19784 on the rear springs." I thought you were talking about front springs.

Is your truck lifted? Gonna guess no, since your wanting to know the factory ride height?

Or are you trying to figure out what amount of lift you have on your truck?

Sorry my first post was confusing.

The truck is lifted, I need to know how much lift but there are no markings on the springs. The only part number is on the rear spring (19784) painted in yellow paint. But when I search no one seems to have this part number.

I was going to measure from the center hub to the fender since I havn't cut them yet. Unless there is a better way to measure it?

I have a 3", 4", or 5" front spring option from my distributer. Just need to know what to order tomorrow

how to measure the ride height is covered in the FSM. But remember that is with factory size tires.

Your suspension isn't using blocks right?

What size tires are on it now?

Page 976 of the FSM lists the ride heights but only for 2wd models. Page 550 shows a 2wd front and a leaf rear, It shows where to measure from on the rear. But again it only shows 2wd specs.

And believe me, noone on here knows what the actual ride heights of these trucks are supposed to be. Every time I ask, I either get no response or someone stating such and such measurement from a 94 etc etc. There is a thread I started on here trying to find out and/or compare IFS and SFA truck ride heights and whether or not they are the same or different and no straight answers were given in that thread.

i have 35's and they fit fine, no rubbing on a 10" wheel so i know its a larger lift.

when i got the truck it had no interior so no fsm.

ill post a link to my build thread with some pics

personally I don't think the factory ride heights are gonna help you much, you got longer shackles on that thing too.

Not sure what else to tell ya, but that almost looks like 6" total. Between spring and shackle.

Hopefully some of the suspension gurus see this that can help ya out more.

i think i may order the trail-gear 3" HD springs and spring hanger kit.

I'm linking the rear and doing high steer in a few months so even if it sits taller I can compensate with the coils in the rear. I just don't want a huge difference in height front to rear

Not so fast, my friend.

http://www.toyotareference.com/truck#TR84

or

http://www.toyotareference.com/

At this site you can find the original sales brochure for your trucks. I found the '85 brochure and the specifics were listed. For example, the "overall height" for my 1985 SFA 4x4 long bed deluxe is 67.3" (it gives specifics for tires also, just about everything is included)

I am not seeing anywhere on there where it mentions heights, I did see in a brochure where it says 10.6" ground clearance. I have been on that site before for the paint codes.

this is the thread I am talking about from earlier.

I went ahead and ordered the standard 3" TG springs with spring hanger kit for the front along with some 28" brake lines.

I'm having chase hold me a crossover kit, hoping to have it by march 10th. Still deciding on standard or flat pitman arm

Chase told me if it sits to low he will swap out the springs for 4" ones at no charge so I'm not to worried anymore. Now I just need to stop my shackles from inverting

Of course I haven't checked the 1987 brochure to see if the specs for your truck were listed....

Thanks LSUfan71. Looks like I wasn't forwarding the brochure pages.

good info to have but a somewhat inaccurate form of measurment. But it still helps. My truck has a 6" lift.

4.5" Tough Country springs and 1.5" lift shackles.

So now I'm going to have 3" TG springs, 1.5" shackles, and the front 1.5" hangers so it should still be 6" in the front

any ideas on this shackle angle? This is under full compression.

I have a feeling it should be on a more negative angle.. at least 45 degrees (if not a lot more under compression)

They also sit vertical when I'm at ride height on level ground. When I unload the front end the shackle might go forward on me (reason i broke my leafs 2 days ago)..

How should I fix this?

I can't really tell but it also looks like my spring is really negative there. Which would explain why they look so wavy and bent up probably
