So, after trying several different things Im still at wits end with my 85 4runner back window. Here's my newest info. To start: 4Crawler, I did check for the wiring under the carpet and it was present. Thanks for the advice. I pulled the switch out that the present owner had disconnected and left in the glove box and plugged it in under the carpet. No Luck! So, I then tried a switch from a doner rig. No Luck! I then plugged in the second relay module from the donor rig thinking maybe that was the problem. No Luck! I then moved back to the switch where it plugs in under the carpet. I figued that if it wouldn't work plugged into the harness that I would at least find out what pins held what charges at different up/down and neutral settings on the swith and just hard wire it to the rear window motor. I know the motor is good because I tested it with a battery. So, I figured the best way to start testing was with a test light. I figued one of the pins had to hold a constant + charge from the ignition, and one had to be grounded - (I don't know any of this to be fact, I just assumed). So I grounded the test light and this is what I found when I started testing. Of the five pins, when the tester touched the bottom right (red wire) the window rolled down. WTF! Then when the tester touched the top left (green and yellow wire) the window rolled up. WTF! Somebody please tell me where they think my problem might be! Thanks for all of your input. Also the bolt that allows the window to roll up and down when the top is off is in place.

I have a 87 4runner that I bypassed the entire circuit. At the window motor side I disconnected the electrical connector and plugged two wires, with blade connectors into the window connector. I ran those wire to the drivers seat with female blade connectors. Then I attached a power and ground wire from the battery back to the drivers seat with male blade conenctors. Plug the wires together and see if the window goes down, assuming its up; if does not just reverse the wires.

if you havent fixed it yet take the switch apart and clean it. that what was wrong with my 93, now it works great.

You have the right shell bolt in place on the left side, second one from the back? It closes a relay in the system when bolted in allowing the window to operate. Its slightly longer than the other btw. Its set up like this so the window won't work with the shell removed.

If that's in place look into the switch under the rear wiper cover that closes when the wiper is all the way up. That was the source of all my rear window troubles. If that switch doesn't close, the system thinks the wiper is running, and the widow won't operate. Mine looked like it was closing but actualy wasn't. A quick check with a multimeter will tell you though.
