Condition Red?! - Multiple Dash Warning Lights
#1
After a weekend road trip I have a bunch of warning lights on my dash lit up. So far it shows BATTERY, TIMING BELT and what I think is FUEL FILTER*, plus the OIL warning light (orange, right side of turbo) stays on. Oil pressure gauge looks normal and vehicle runs fine (though it was a bit slow starting this morning).
If all those lights were really supposed to be screaming at me, I don't think I'd get up the hill ... so I'm figuring this is probably a return cable or gauge fuse. I checked a bunch of fuses, and couldn't find any broken.
Can anyone help decode this combination of lights into some sensible reading?
Background: 92 Hilux Surf (Japanese, imported to NZ), swapped the head a couple months ago, behaving fine since apart from a little slow starting this morning - I could believe a dirty fuel filter perhaps as it hasn't been swapped lately. Runs OK otherwise.
Also - I replaced the timing belt recently but was told today I need to reset the timing belt Odo with a dashboard button - can anyone confirm this? I wondered what the reset button under the speedo was for :)
I've put too much time into this one to let it go quickly. My girl and I want a lot more beaut camping weekends like the last one ... Any suggestions would be much appreciated :)
PS. I'm fresh around here, please redirect me if this is not the right forum!
* The warning light I think shows FUEL FILTER - looks like a droplet of water above a tray, pretty sure it was red but could have been orange.

Thanks for the help, fellas.
Battery was replaced recently, when I did the head swap. It's still under warranty, so while it's less likely that's the problem, it would be cheaper to have fixed, too!
But realistically, probably the alternator. I'll test the alternator tomorrow when I get a multimeter. I'm looking for a steady 13.5V or higher across the alternator and battery terminals with engine running, is that correct?
Cheers

Yes.
I picked up a replacement alternator - local shops wanted NZ$300 and said they were extremely rare (pump at rear), but I found a Hilux wrecking in the local trader rag and picked it up for $70.
Swapped it in and she's all go ... thanks heaps for the advice fellas!

I'm having the SAME Issue, except its a brand new re-mfg. alt. that I just spent $130 for, as well as a brand new belt. Had both the Batt. and the alt . tested and was told the alt. was dead. Got the new one, took it home and Installed it. Truck seemed to run fine.
From the start:
I had this problem before, where the lights for all the warnings came on and so I replaced the Battery and got a new one. I tested it (fired up) it worked so I turned it off. I left the truck sit for a day. (I was using my AE86 for my daily) and went to start my truck the next day to run an errand, and nothing. I pulled the battery, charged it on a trickle charger since I hadn't run the truck in a bit, and thats when I decided to replace the alternator.
Bought a new alternator, installed it, seems to have tension on the belt, cause my first thought was that it was slipping, but it doesn't seem to be. Haven't driven the truck a whole lot, and the dash lights would occasionally flicker. Today, driving to work from my G/f house, I noticed the lights were on again. I hadn't noticed the lights immediately after I left, but when I stopped for gas, when i went to leave the station, the truck wouldn't start. (Its happened in the past, and I think it has to do w/ something in the PARK position. usually i have to move the gear select and slide it down to other gears, while off, then slam it back into PARK) After that, I noticed the lights.
Ideas?
It does have the wiring for an AMP (which i have removed the fuse as well as disconnecting the MONSTER CABLE from the battery so not to have any shorts and un-necessary power draw.) and taped up any exposed wires to prevent shorts. Which there shouldn't be since the Monster cable is not connected.
The truck is an 87 SR5 Turbo, however the 22RTE was switched w/ a regular 22r that was freshly re-built. (Bought from a friend who did the swap, and had it checked out by Toyota) My understanding is that the appropriate vacuum lines are correct. The truck seems to run fine (needs a heli-coil), and the fuel sending unit (doesn't ever show above 2 bars on the gas gauge even when full.) Boost gauge is full bars, even though there is no Turbo. I think it still has the stock ECU.
Any ideas?
(BTW, despite being new here, I know how to use the SEARCH function!)
