My two 86s both get Rotella 15W-40 since that's what my daily driver uses and I can usually get it for under $10 a gallon if I buy up whenever it's on sale. It's also what I put in my Subaru (summer only) beater car, lawn equipment, whatever.

While it may be a little thick at first, it's great oil for very little money.

Wal-mart is having a sale on Chevron Delo for $8.50 a gallon. I think I may stock up-I've read that it's good stuff, too.

Nice. I have an 07 6.0 PSD,(awesome power) and I would love to make the oil changes a little cheaper. I'm switching to 5W-40 synthetic for winter, since -20F is the norm for January mornings some years.

you're supposed to put oil in these things!!!???? crap....

also look up brad penn oil, it's 'racing' oil but they make 10w-30 among other flavors that have a much higher zinc/phosphorus content which is good for engine, bad for O2 sensors, can't remember if I already posted this or not...

it's only available from certain dealers around the country or off Amazon and such sites. I'm finally thru my synthetic pennzoil supply and will be using penn oil from now on; it's a blend of synthetic/mineral

here's some on amazon's site:

Castrol GTX High Mileage 10w-30, Carquest(Wix) filter. Pretty clear oil off the bat, and golden honey color at 3K when it's changed. Best combo i've worked with.

I've been using conventional Quaker State 10-30 in my California equipped 22RE for the last few oil changes with a cheapy filter. The oil still has a small amount of transparency when I change it and I only add maybe a quart oil oil to top off between changes.

After reading through this thread I think I will upgrade to a better filter to see if it will keep my oil even cleaner!

FYI, the OEM toyota filters for the 3.4 fit the 22R block, are larger and about the same price.

I use brad penn green oil in my porsche 2L and it loves it but I did develop leaks after a while. Never thought of using it in my 4runner. I found a dealer right down the road from my house the other day. I might try it out in the 4runner after I use the castrol HM I just put in. Did you get any leaks from using the penn oil?

I will let you know if I do! I haven't put it in yet, it's sitting waiting for my next oil change which will be this week; I had a big supply of 5w-30 synthetic pennzoil to get thru. When I switched from mineral to synthetic, I didn't get any leaks though, been using synthetic for about 25k miles or so now. The penn is a blend so I'm not sure if it will be too much of a difference or not. I have been dreaming of getting this stuff in my engine for almost a year now.... 4runner is due shortly, I'm gonna dump some in that thing too. kinda hope my 3vz blows up so I have an excuse to finally do my swap, hahaha

OK, so I went with some Lucas synthetic 5w-30 instead of the penn oil, couldn't find any 5w-30 in the penn and lucas was the same exact price as castrol syntec.... 5qts of oil plus a half quart of the lucas 'treatment' stuff.... I love it, it's sticky as can be.... much needed, oil was starting to get dark but took almost 5k miles to get there, not bad...

I use the cheap walmart oil. Oil is oil. as long as you look at the apec rating on it. I do like the wix filters best.
