Brand of Oil to use?
#124
I switched shortly after getting my 81 Yota 4x4 to Mobile 1 Synthetic for High Mileage Trucks and a Mobile 1 filter from AutoZone. The filter might be a little overpriced but it is made specifically for the synthetic oils. I noticed an almost immediate difference in mileage. I had never used synthetic oils until doing a lot of reading and talking prior to this change. I have now been using it for well over a year with no regrets.

As much as I love T6 Rotella, I'm switching over to Motorcraft 15W-40 this spring. You can get a five quart bottle for $12 at Wal Mart and as diesel applications go, it's comparable to Rotella as a 15W-40. I've read a lot about it, and the dealer just put it in my PSD while it was in for inspection(they didn't ask what I wanted put in). A lot of 6.0 guys like it,and I'm sure a 22R wouldn't be nearly as rough on oil.
I may be comparing apples to oranges here, but I also really like the T5 10-30 Rotella. It quieted down my Subaru a lot. It seemed to do well during -10F mornings, too.
I'd like to see some UOAs for the 22R and diesel oil. Anyone?

I generally run VALVOLINE....
Except the last couple years... living in an apartment where you can't change your own oil blows... Having to take it to Jiffy Lube and have them use Quaker State...

After several oil changes...
Now that I have a house with a garage and the ability to do it myself, I'm switching back to Valvoline (usually 10-30 in the winter, 20-50 in the summer to keep the oil pressure from dropping and to shut up my valves.)
Course here in a couple weeks I'll be dropping a new head in with new valves and everything so I might be stickin with 10-30. Either way, it'll be VALVOLINE. That's all my dad ever put in it for the 11 years he had it.
