What is this thing?
In front of the shifter in my 1981 Toyota pickup seems to be some kind of wire harness, so what exactly is this thing?

It's a wire coming out of a rubber plug that appears to be wrapped with tape...

Is this truck 4wd? Could it be the 4wd indicator?

Its the wire for the reverse light, as my 2wd has one

Reverse light, that would have been my second guess...I'm not sure why it would come up through the floor? Kinda odd but if you have one I'll take you word on it.

carbed trucks had the wire coming up through the floor, rather than down the wiring harness like the EFI trucks. They continued that through 85 IIRC.
