Tailgate stickers or paint ??

I'm wondering if the 79-83 trucks had the "TOYOTA" on the tailgate painted on or was it stickers ?
Mine is a 1980 and has the raised letters if that matters.
Thanks in advance.

they were paint matched. if they're different from that of the tailgate. they've been painted.

Corey, I didn't know that you did decals too. We'll have to talk when you get close to finishing my bed.

Yes, those are the ones I was looking at.
I was considering just painting the raised letters black because i figured it would last longer but the the stickers are probably a cheaper option.
I guess the stickers last a while since Toyota used them on later models.

I would think wayyy cheeper then paint .. $24.00 for the "Toyota" and $12.00 for the 4wd decals (black or white) .. and small enough to go mail .. so inexpensive to ship as well . we also can get them in a multitude of different colors , for a little more

also notice the "Toyota" has rounded corners to match the lettering on the gate ..

They are different sizes between my 80 and 81, the 80's tailgate lettering is larger than the 81. Measure first before ordering vinyl to avoid the hassle of sending it back..

Looks like the 79 and 80 tailgates with 2 outside latches have 5" height letters and the later style center latch tailgates on the 81-83's have 4" letter height. 2wd tailgates use a different font all together.

going with stickers will be much easier than painting. I've painted 2 of coreys 84-88 tailgates with raised letters and it is a pain. you can make the corners round while masking but I had to use some special, thin, expensive masking tape to do so. There should be pics in my build up thread.
