need heat

im just curious if anyone has a problem with first gen. pick up heater. my 81
4x4s heater is not warm at all. just got my new floor boards in, so now i dont
have that draft up the leg. but the thing just does not get warm. thinkig bout a hotter therm. but not sure.... has a new rad. and i made sure it was burpt so i would not have this issue. but same result as the old rad. any ideas would be sweet!!!

Did you flush your heater core? It might be plugged up. I just flushed a core on a '01 z71 truck, and it made a world of difference.

Yeah, If you have heat just very little while it is "blasting"... Sounds like your heater core is plugged...

What rating degree wise is your thermostat, and what does it read when warmed up fully?

It really sounds like a blocked/plugged heater core to me. I don't think its any inherent problem with the age of the rig. You could try to flush the core and see if any crap comes out of it. Use distilled water and compressed air. Its worth a try!

Open up the hood and grab the 2 hoses that go into the heater core. Should be just as hot as the main rad hoses. If there hot then open up the flow control manually all the way. Still no heat then your core is plug up with junk which is not hard to flush out.

Pull the hoses from the radiator and do it in the truck w/o removing the core. Use a funnel to add distilled water into one hose, and blow compressed air into the same hose. Then go the other way. You will likely need three or so gallons of distilled water. I hope this helps!

Put a piece of cardboard in front of your radiator that covers up about half the radiator. It's a good trick if it's cold all the time. Just remember to take it out when the weather warms up. Worked for me and my truck gets warm driving about 5 miles to work.
