Advice on what to do?

I recently bought some 6 lug 16.5 wheels, to fit my miltary tires I had, but there alum instead of steel. so the wheels are extra thick. I tryed puting them on and the studs are flush with the outside of the wheel not good. So my question is I dont wanna screw these wheels up by drillings them and makeing them unsafe cause Im sure I would screw up the balance by doing that and make them way unsafe. So its looking like im going to have to invest in some longer studs all around and some open ended lugnuts. Can anyone point me to the right studs please?

Those thick wheels you have, do they have tapered lug nut seats or is there just a flat surface? Maybe you need mag type lug nuts. A tapered lugnut hole uses tapered (acorn) type lugnuts. If there is just a flat faced hole then it sounds like you need the mag type lugnuts that go in past the outer surface of the wheel.

Hope this helps. Can you show us the wheel and lugnut area?

Yeah I would think you need "mag nuts" .. they have a collar that is deep set into the wheel hole .. instead of just an acorn nut ..

I have a bunch of them from my old supra .. I'll let them go real cheep

totally forgot about that type of lug nuts, I have a ton of them left from my '05 Taco.

pics of the rims and the situation you are running into on the rims/studs would be a big help too...

I wouldn't use any Toyota factory lugnuts in this case. Those wheels you have probably aren't as thin as factory aluminum wheels are. An aftermarket mag lugnut will have a longer shank going deeper into the recess. Just my opinion though.
You can easily get those at Discount Tire or even at a parts store. 12mm X 1.5 is the thread size and pitch you need. They will need to come with washers too. One for each stud.

I dont have a full set ...I know when my tires were stolen , a few of them were lost and the supra is only a 5 bolt not 6 ... you can have what I've got , just you pay the parcel post , probably 20 bucks .

Do you really want to put 16.5 tires and wheels on your truck, they don't make 16.5 tires anymore and they are getting very hard to find (and expensive). looking for a replacement for a cut tire might be next to impossible if you need one right away.
16.5s also use a different degree bead without using a "safety style rim" that keep the bead on the rim. It makes it real easy to break the bead when changing tires, but it also allows the tire to pop off the bead when running low air pressures.
I have 16.5s on my van and will be looking for 16" rims shortly, I cant even find good snow tires for it.
Aluminum rims aren't great for off radding either, they break instead of bending like steel. Steel wheels can also be hammered back into shape on the trail.
I used to have a set of turbine rims on my '73 Laguna (Chevelle with rubber bumpers), had them on my '70 El Camino for a while but they didn't look right.

I have a brand new set of 4 tires, and 6 spares with ok tread. I also have another set of tires and wheels Im running now that are 16's tho 15's seem alont more common. these are just going to get me through till I find another deal. I dont really get too ruff with my truck or air down, mostly just mudd and some snow.
