So we all know these are not fast. Is this about average acceleration?
40-60mph pull in 5th.
truck has 31s so not sure if the speed is on I need to bring a GPS in it.

speedometer is not accurate, check your tag for tire size and gear ratio consult the grimjeeper calculator.

5th gear is "overdrive" (something higher than 1to1), something interesting the .83-.89/range from memory depending on what five speed you have. This is meant for cruising not acceleration.

I've never had my 86 over about fifty percent throttle, well once I stomped it to the floor and held it till the head/gasket lifted but that was at iirc over 20psi of boost after I lifted.

The 94 acceleration up hill in fourth isn't spectacular but it will do it, in fifth is about what you show here (been awhile since I've got to drive it, sad panda!)

Peak torque is around 2800 (on the efi, should be similar for carb), you were just barely hitting 2600(?).

Bottom line is 5th gear or overdrive is not meant for acceleration but only cruising on generally level ground.

Down shift to fourth and try that again, otherwise it's about what I'd expect.

My turbo 4runner and 2wd pickup go much faster than I am comfortable driving them. We had a recent thread about 1st gen 4runners in the movie maze.runner and people were shocked about chasing a train (train speed.limit is 55mph) saying "mine could never do that". I pass trains every day, all be it not off road, and wonder what kind of final drive ratio those guys are running. Granted its sketchy asf at 75 in a cross wind on pavement due to the profile of a brick sitting about six feet tall.

PS, most phones have GPS apps available and also an app for.g-force

Yeah of course 4th would do it quicker but I wanted to see what it would do in top gear .

I might try in 4th too but I wanted more to know if it's about what others are seeing. I will also bring my GPS along to see how off the Speedo is with 31s

I use an app called velociraptor which shows current speed limit and speed on a nice overlay for google maps.

Out of curiosity, how accurate are these apps?

FWIW, I also have 31s on our '83, and the speedo reads about 5 mph slow at any highway speed. Confirmed by following my wife and using Motorola radios to check my speedo at various speeds she was driving at. With those 31s, it sure seems like a sloooow truck. Plus, lots of downshifting to 4th on any uphill stretches of road.

I agree 31's equal 5 mph speedo error at highway speeds.
compare your odometer with mile markers. You need that compensation factor when calculating your
gas mileage(total miles travelled will be greater than the odometer shows)

Might wanna test accuracy of tach also, FSM shows how.

Keep in mind when verifying speed with another vehicle most, in my expereince, vehicles seem to read speed on the light side when compared GPS. When using gear calculators keep in mind they are a great reference but not 100% accurate in every situation. very few tire manufacturers make tires at the stated size they're usually smaller and then factor in tread wear all play a part.

Lots of things will effect top end in 5th gear or any gear. I don't want to insult you or anyone else's intelligence. Things like: grade of road, gears, worn parts or drag (bearings, brakes,...), rolling resistance (tread, psi....), grade of road, wind resistance, condition of motor/exhaust/intake/carb/air filter/fuel filter/spark plugs/points/timing/plug wire/......,

Best sticker I've seen for our trucks "think I'm slow now; wait till the up hills."

When I got my 4rnr. It was stock on a worn set of 33's with close to 185,000miles on 22RE. Only time she would do/hold 60/65mph in 5th was flat ground or slight decline. Now add 12trs of tinkering and building. And my 5th gear is good to hold 60/65mph on slight inclines. With a top speed of 72/75mph... Next motor will most likely be a 3RZ or 3TR but honostly don't expect top speed to be much better as 72/75mph is about max I'm comfortable driving at with flex springs, no swaybars, and driveline angles on lifted suspension.
