81 P/U rotting frame

hey i have an 81 pick up, 4x4, 22r, long box and i have noticed the frame is starting to rot. Is it easy to find a new frame for my truck or is it a lost cause?
thanks.

Well....it depends. In some parts of the country there are a lot of these trucks around that don't have much rust. In other parts there pretty much aren't any. Aside from that, swapping frames is a major job. If you pay someone to do it, you might as well just find a truck like yours without a rusty frame that's in good mechanical condition and buy it and sell yours. If you're going to do it yourself it's a ton of work. Worth it...? Depends on how attached to your truck you are. Most people would probably try to patch the rust spots before just swapping frames.

if its the part of the frame that's just above the front rear leaf spring mount (doesn't sound right but....) I had mine repaired, I think the guy used either 3/16 or 1/4 plate. He said when he put it on his lift the one side leaf spring fell from the frame. The only thing holding the spring mount in place was the weight of the truck.

It's held up really well, And believe me I beat the heck outta this thing. 92TOY can confirm.

Charged me $350 to do both sides, and he didn't have to drop the fuel tank:

no problem man, like I said only cost me $350 by a quality welder/leafspring tech that has done this many times on Yotas for many years. Holding up nice. Now I got some rot coming through the frame just under the bed, gonna have him fix that when I get a chance.
