Its either from the body lift, or one of the shifters is installed backwards.

You could always take the shifter out and bend it a bit

I didnt even know that was possible Jack, if i remember correctly, that shifter goes in one way.

Body lift wouldnt due it either i think... as the sticks hit each other, not the hole in the cab...

Could it be the Previous Owner bend the piss out of one?

O.k., let me clarify:

1. It's not the BL. True. Not sure where that rumor started. I know because I have a 3" BL, and no issues.

2. You can't bolt the transfer case shifter in 180° off(the bolt holes won't line up). BUT, you can install the shifter in the mounting bracket 180° off. Which would cause the same effect.

3. Mine JUST BARELY don't touch with tranny in reverse and t-case in 2H. I can make them touch if I want to. And that's just how they are. They're not bent in the least.

As is shown here.

88 3VZE, if that matters.

Some of the t-case shifter bases are symmetrical and can be flipped around 180*. The V6 t-case is one that is not symmetrical, you can see some of the various shifter bases on the page below:

And yes, a body lift in and of itself won't affect the levers touching, after all if you pulled the body off altogether, the shifters would still touch (if they touched before). But, if someone cut the shifters and welded in extensions, and did not check for clearance after doing so, that could be the cause of the problem. Bending is the fix. I think Marlin bends the shifters in the truck, with a length of pipe slipped over the shifter and bends until they clear.

You can install it backwards, I've done it haha

That's why I always check the movement before I bolt it all down now. Easy fix tho.
