gear driven transfer case on v6?

I was under the impression that all 3vze manual transmissions came with chain driven transfer cases, but I just bought one that has a gear driven case. The tranny shifter and transfer shifter like to hit one another when I shift to 2nd gear while in 2hi and reverse and 4lo like to butt heads as well. Please enlighten me on my ignorance. The whole deal (trans and transfer) may be for sale soon.

I do not know, Elton. I have checked pirate4x4 and can't come up with an explanation.

The stock xfr case attached to the 3vze/R151f is a chain driven. Gear driven only came on 22rte equipped rigs I believe. Maybe they had an adaptor or something on it??

Apparently there was a very rare Toyota xfr case that was driven by a leather belt with a silver buckle standard. Gold was optional.

I have never heard of the 3.slow coming without a chain drive t-case, and I definatly have never heard of a belt driven, belt driven would seem like a waste of time and money.
Could there be the chance that some one has already done the gear driven t-case conversion on the rig already??

i did

I installed the tranny and case. They looked fine to me. Is it possible to fit a 3.0 bellhousing on any of the various 22re trannies? Will a 22re transfer case bolt to a r150f without an obvious adaptor. I had the tranny sitting in my garage for a good couple of weeks and it looked all stock...no adaptor.

I've never heard of a V6 engine to 4cyl tranny adapter (always the other way). And adapting a gear driven t-case to a V6 tranny is really expensive.

What make you think its gear driven?

hmmm2...

Well, I am beginning to think that incorrect information is leading me to the gear-driven conclusion. Through 4x4wire I have found info that matches up with my setup very nicely. According to 4x4wire, I have the r150f with a
vf1a case. If anybody can, please confirm that the chain driven case that mates to a r150f had a 5 bolt round rear section at the rear output shaft.

To another problem...does anybody have an issue with their shifters hitting one another?

sounds like the transfer shifter is installed backwards. it will fit that way and the two will hit oneanother.

IF your truck is STOCK, you HAVE a CHAIN driven t-case. My shifters do not hit each other as far as I've noticed nor have I heard of this before?

You can get all the tranny xfer case info you will ever need for toys at Marlincrawler.com

Yes, 5-bolts is a chain drive case:

On shifter interference, 2 options:

1. T-case shifter is stabbed in 180degrees off, remove shifter, turn 180 and re-install.

2. Bend shifter levers as needed to clear:

thanks

I greatly appreciate all of your help. I have tried rotationg my shifters and it definately does not work. I wonder if I have the proper shifters to begin with. This may be justification for a twin stick. If anyone has a good description or picture of their shifters, I would be greatful.
My transfer case shifter sits to the left of my tranny shifter in the 2hi and 4hi positions.

Thanks again, guys. I have auto tranny parts for sale in the classified section so if anybody that has chimed in needs something i will cut you a good deal.

Well, if it has a body lift, then the shifters will come with extensions that you weld on. But your description says you have a suspension lift.

I was unaware the V6 used a gear set case. Oh well. As for your shifters butting heads, the transfer case shifter is in 180' out. Pop it out, rotate it 1/2 turn and reinstall it.
