94-22re head rebuild and major tune up questons

ok i have a 94 toyota pickup 22 re 4wd 5-spd. wen i bought the truck it had 130,000 on it and i had the timing chain replaced with the good kit with the steel guides and it seemed ok untill about 2 weeks ago i started the truck and it was running wierd, so i shut it off rite away and noticed that the anti freeze had oil in it and was over flowing, i did not run it after that, pretty sure i didnt over heat it, started leaking oil up front a couple of months ago. the mechanic that did the timing chain did not replace the head gasket and he did not remove the oil pan wen he replaced the timing chain. the truck now has 160,000 miles, so i got a head gasket kit and had the head re-surfaced checked for cracks and a valve job done. im glad i removed the timing chain cover because the gasket was bad, got a new timing chain gasket the chain and guides look fine, thats where im at now trying to take my time taking the oil pan off, its really on there lol. 1 the questons i had was how do i prime the oil pump wen i put it back together, by the way the engine is out of the truck, also the one freeze plug looks like its pushed out just a little further than the others, 2 should i replace them or just leave them alone, also got new fuel filter, ngk plugs, wires, cap, rotor, thermostat, head bolts, engine mounts, and new clutch. also the truck has no oil pressure guage, 3 wasn't sure how i could tell if the oil pump is working properly with out a guage. 4 also noticed that just behind the dip stick on the block 22r is stamped? thought it would be stamped 22re ? 5 also the oil pan has gray gasket sealer on it rite now i have some black gasket sealer which color is the best for the oil pan and for the corners of the head? 6 also what should i do with the fuel incjectors? the kit came with new o-rings, what can i clean the injectors with? guess i should also add that im not trying to gain extra hp just trying to get another 150,000 out of the truck, its my daily driver, im also painting the frame rite now since i live in pa and everything rots out here lol but anyways i have all the parts i need now and today im going to try to clean up the top of the pistons and block, and try to get the oil pan off and start re-assembling, any help and tips would greatly be appreciated

performancewitch.com for the injectors. I perfer purple sealant, j/k any will do fine. Don't prime the oil pump on a 22r/re. 22r is block 22re is the intake so relax. you should do the rear main since it is out and tranny front seal. New clutch kit.

Replacing the head gasket on a timing chain replacement is not necessary so you mechanic did not rip you off. But use factory head gasket anytime you replace one.

probably ought to replace water pump while you got it off. remember to use antisieze or you will wind up replacing the timing chain cover.

Take an old head bolt clean it up with a wire brush. Take a small cutoff wheel on a dremel and cut a gully from bottom to top on both sides. Now you have a home made thread cleaner. Loads keeper than a tap. I got this from 4crawler.

Red face

Where in Pa do you live??

Why would you not prime the oil pump.

I always do since it has been out and cleaned checked for clearance or when installing a new one.

Just curious.

You have the engine out it would have been a easy job to do the bottom end this could come back and bite you in the butt.

No reason to buy a complete Tap and die just get the ones you need along with the correct tap drills needed.:jessica:

The head bolts being a bit longer well not hurt anything as long as they don't shank out or bottom out
