Exclamation 3RZ-FE 2.7 4runner 98, intake problem

hi everyone, i exchanged my AIR filter for a custom "high performance" one, ok the problem lies on this: when i press the gas i heard a loud pinging on the engine, i think is an AIR problem , how do i adjust the engine for the new filter?
or how do i reset the EFI system. i'm using GAS rated to 89 octane. i think its too much air flowing to the engine or something or not too much air? i don't know guys what do you think? there was a pipe connected to the original AIRFILTER BOX, i left it out and added a samll filter to it, does this pipe has to be connected to the air filter? i need to stop that pinging, the good side is that the engine feels with a little more power when rev at 3000 ,and sounds like a sport car. , reply plz.

My K&N puts the oil that covers the filter onto the wires inside the mass air flow sensor on my 3.4, I dont know if the 2.7 has the same type of maf or not, but when the wires get dirty it causes a lot of problems like you are describing. And a pic of what hose you disconnected would help too. Those smart guys at toyota put all those hoses in there for a reason, I try to not question the reason, and put every hose on my truck that they meant to be on there.

I'm with Slater.. I saw the exact same thing on a supercharged 3.4L - it ran very lean under boost due to that oil messing with the MAF sensor element.

Cool

ok this is my current setup, haven't perform any other mods but the AIRFILTER , the other hose is the one with the small filter, goes to the EVAC system (i did some Research ) bu it was connected to the filter box, before the MAF, the filter has a a place to connect that hose but the current hose is too short so i adapted the small filter, It is necessary to connect it to the filter?, so the suck AIR together?. now another Question. im concerned about the water from autside , rain , washing etc.. how do i protect it from entering water to the INTAKE?.
the pinging sound it seems weaker now, could it be the AIRFILTER oil?, i cleaned the MAF sensor with CRC electronic cleaner, it helped a bit. any suggestions?
comment my setup plz.

or maybe my filter is too cheap! haha, 25$, what filter would you recommend guys?
