try checking the flap in the air breather that switches from hot air to cold air. if it is pulling hot air all the time it can hurt your mileage. it will be in the snorkel part of the air breather.

Is the fuel level in the middle of the site glass on the carb ? a restricted exhaust can cut mileage also. my 89 was getting around 18 mpg running the dirt roads and hwy. after i installed a k&n air filter and put on a better flowing muffler it went up to around 23 1/2. i also knocked the center out of the converter.

ionly get about 17-18 and i dont have a cat, and have a better flowing muffler.. i just thought this was normal cause mine runs so smooth. 23mpg would be kick ass!

the bvsv regulates the vacuum to the aap (aux accelerator pump diaphragm) which adds fuel to the engine when cold. so if the vacuum is being sent to the aap when hot it might cause it to run rich. there is a site called 22r carburetor FAQ, i don't know how to do a link to the site but it might be helpful.
