Toy SFA- what isn't needed?
I recently acquired a solid front axle from an '80 Toy with less than 30k miles on it. Up until now I never intended on putting in an SAS, but now that I am I have a "starter" question.
This axle is complete from caliper to caliper (no manual hubs), it ncludes steering up to, but not including the steering box, it has the control arm, the springs with shackles, even the soft brake lines which remain uncut. This was a very nice guy I got it from and definitely not a junkyard or "hack" job taking it out.
My question is this- What don't I need on this axle? I plan to run IFS hubs, calipers and rotors. The 3rd is a 3.90 that I'll probably sell and rebuilt or buy a HP or other diff.
I'm trying to be as specific as I can, but as I said, I know a lot about vehicles-too much about IFS-but I'm very uneducated when it comes to SFA's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, If I were to sell this axle as it is now- what would it be worth? Please don't flame me for that question- simply don't answer it if you feel it's inappropriate.
Thanks a bunch!

you could sell it for about 200-300, depending on what the going rate is in your area.
As far as the axle goes, i would suggest getting rid of the steering in addition to what you already posted, and other than that, i would truss the axle, as well as rebuild it from end to end. Replace all the seals, ubolts, and retorque everything. If you buy a kit, you'll get all the new stuff, as well as extra stuff to make the swap better. If not going with a kit, then replace at least those couple of things.
Best just to get it done once.

Thanks for all the replies guys; I kinda figured for myself most of this already but I wanted some validation.
And drguitarum2005-yes, the axle is pass drop, just as 2nd gen. 4Runners are.

If you were not planning on a SAS why do one now simply because you now have approx. $100-150 in parts towards it. Trust me the whole thing costs much more than that. That also answers the question on how much the thing is worth.

To realistically do a SAS the RIGHT way (flame on) costs around 3 grand.. Keep adding more $$ if you don't have the fab tools or don't have access to some (friends hehe)...
There are many SAS methods out there but IMO kits are the best bang for your buck, especially considering you GET EVERYTHING (minus some bobby longs) for the lifts and front axle rebuild..
After the kits you start adding on gears (you'll need new gears for bigger tires)... lockers etc...
TRUST me, seeing this complete 85 axle every day on the side of my shed is DEPRESSING becuase I can't do the SAS for quite a while.. If only I made more money! haha

I pretty well finished my SAS with an 80 Toyota solid axle. I paid $125 for mine minus a birf(I gave the PO a birf from the axle-no big deal I have lots of spares) I picked up a set of the Longfield http://www.longfieldsuperaxles.com/ chromoly hub gears a few days ago. He has some that will convert the 27 spline IFS hubs to 30 spline Solid axle hubs. They were fun to install into the hub even with the correct snapring pliers! Got them in, and was able to reuse my mint IFS locking hubs on the solid axle. Good luck on your swap! http://rides.webshots.com/album/5598...OzcoJ?start=12
