sealed beam conversion
im wanting to switch from the old style (crappy) sealed beam to the newer style housings with seperate bulbs.
option 1: ebay housings with hella bulbs.
option 2: hella housing with hella bulbs.
1 is cheaper but you simply cannot go wrong with hella. is it worth the extra 40 or so bucks to go hella?

Id suggest that you get the hella lights, I ve had them and they are good quality. The cheaper lights always seem to get water in them after a few months and then blow the bulb out and the worst possible time.

Hey Rob, did you just get the base model bulb hella included in their e-code kit?
I am going to be buying this kit (im tired of having two candles for headlights!), not sure if im gonna go with the:
Kit with Hella Premium 100/80w Xenon +100% H4 Bulbs
Or
Kit with Hella Premium 60/55w Xenon +100% H4 Bulbs
My stock headlight wiring tested pretty darn good. Loosing less then a volt to the lights.

I believe it was the base model bulb. I have since gone through two different pair of bulbs since then. That's the beauty of this system...being able to experiment with different bulbs and finding what works best. One suggestion, though, is to protect them with a headlight film. I don't know what brand I used, but basically it is a protective tape-like film that helps protect the lens. So far, I've not had any chips or cracks, which is a very good thing.

I switched over to the H4 Vision Plus lights with the 60/55 bulbs and I love 'em. Waaaay better night visibility.
I was told that the 80/100's were a little bit of overkill and you might want to expect a lot of oncoming cars flashing you even with your regular beams on. Also, can the stock wiring harness handle them?

I went with Roundeyes.com conversion which uses replacable H4 bulbs. Very good investment.

heh i have a set of HIDs in my mustang. i just dont like the fact that you only have low beams unless you spend the $ for bi xenons. i live in the sticks and need light above and to the sides for animals.

Well, im sure if you aim your headlights properly, you will not have an issue. I swear, 80% of the cars out there have improperly aimed headlights.. Especially all the lifted fullsize mallcrawlers
The stock wiring should be able to handle it, I checked mine out and I am only losing around 1volt from the battery to the lights...

i have been running Hella 100W on stock wires for about 1 year now and i will never go back. and what is nice is I only pay $15bz or about $8us for 1 Hella 100W bulb.

Potentially the biggest "bang for the buck" can come from upgrading the factory wiring if you find you are getting excessive voltage drops there:

I saw nearly a doubling in light output when I upgraded the wiring on my '85:
