ok i just broke some parts on my 86 and it was the last straw iv have had it its time to build a nice rig. so for my dd i have a 98 4runner 4cyl 5spd, perfect.

whats the best way to do a sas i want leafs so its cheeper and i was looking at the trail gear kit but idk if it will work. r there any kits designed for the 4runner?? and im planing on running a yota axel weather the 79-85 axel or the early 90s land cruse axel if i can do that.

for the rear should i keep the coils or do a 63" chevy swap??

Okay. No, the trail gear kit will not work for the 98. It will need to be a custom job, and you really should do a ton of bracing and plating on the frame to make it strong enough. If you are a good welder fabricator, it would be doable, do some research, and figure out everything you need to do. I don't think its going to be all that cheap, if you do it right, and build a good truck.

Leafs are cheap on the early trucks, cuz they are easy and quick. Not so much on the later trucks. I would swap the 86 long before i tried to swap the 98.

PS You will need to run an axle with a driver side differential to match your transfer case configuration. If you change the transfer case to an older style (there are adapters), you can run a passenger side diff.

 

Doing a swap on a 3rd gen is very complicated and expensive. The ORS kit sounds pretty cool, but you need to know that in addition to the driver side drop, you need to think through the steering (literally from the steering wheel down), crossmember, brakes, and how to match it with the rear suspension - not to mention the "basics" like Lockers? wheels? Tires? Regearing? Then there are the electronics to deal with like ABS, speed senders, etc. Certainly not to be taken lightly.

If I had a mini-truck, I would have swapped that instead of my 96, even though my 96 is a super cool truck. Good luck.

Sounds like a sweet build. You should really talk to SteveO about his. He kept coilovers in the front and did the all-pro 5.5 leaves in the rear. I think SteveO will be your best source of info as far as this is concerned

 

sry i was thinking the early 90s crusers did but im wrong. the swap wont be for a whyle though im kind of haveing trouble saveing money and im going off to school next fall so if it happens it will be next summer or the next im mainly just seing how much i need to save and what are the best options.
