i am currently doing a sas on my 93 toyota pickup. i bought 10" chevy springs for the lift. do i have to extend my rear driveshaft with the 10" lift?? or will it be ok? im only in the cutting and grinding stage of my swap so i want to be ready to send the driveshaft out if it has to be extended. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

 

I was going to ask WTF!!! But then I realized you are in Hawaii...

You will need to modify both driveshafts for that kind of height.

 

remember 10" on achevy is probably gonna lift a Toyota higher.

You're gonna want to have the springs and axles on to measure teh appropriate angles and find out how much lift/travel you actually have.

 

ok thanks for the help. i bought the skyjacker 10" chevy springs and im gonna run 15x14 weld rims with 35x14.5x15 boggers. out here in Hawaii, my buddies do a bunch of solid axle swaps. they run 15x18 rims and 44" boggers! crazy! ill post pics if you guys wanna see some of the fab work down here. didnt get around to asking my friend about the driveshaft because hes in california right now. i cant wait to finish my SAS. this is the first one ive done this high. thanks again.

 

I would expect your going to get about 14-16" of lift from those springs... you will need to grind off the stock spring perches and weld new ones on as that much lift will require a serious amount a axle clocking. Then once your all bolted/welded up you can get a flange to flange measurment and have the shaft leaghtned. I would also reccommend a CV style shaft for that excessive of an angle.

 

If you only plan to run 35's, you could get away with 5" of lift... But given that you already have the springs and are on your way, keep in mind that you'll also likely need to cut/turn the knuckles on your front axle. Throwing double cases at it and a high-pinion front will certainly help the front shaft as well.

 

i dont think my truck will be around 14"-16" high. a friend of mine has 12" chevy springs with 33's and his is about 12", because he compared it to a 83 chevy truck with a 12" lift with 33's, and its dead on even.

Brian, remember that the hawaiian guys lift their trucks for much different reasons than we do on the mainland. I don't think they rock crawl much. They just go for the max lift physically possible.

 

To the bruddah's on the islands, as much lift as possible, with the biggest, widest tires and wheels possible is da kine! It's all good. Wouldn't be worth much out here in the desert, but if I lived in Hawaii, wheelin' wouldn't be my top priority....

You're right - to each his/her own. I can't say I "get it," but then again, my truck hasn't moved in almost a year.

 

Or shocks up front, and the rear appers to be a V vs. the /\...

 

this 4 runner isnt finished yet. still needs shock hoops, driveshaft, and the other small things. beleive it or not, here in Hawaii, we do go wheling hard with our trucks, even if its lifted high. probably not as hard as you guys up there in the mainland, but....after all, we are an island.. LOL....not too much rocks out here on Oahu though, mostly mud trails and sand so i guess thats why we do it high. lol

That taco looks nice.

I think the Hawain trucks are a nice compromise. They are kind of a mix of the Socal "bro" truck that I see all too much of and a real crawler.

Sure, they have more shocks than needed and a few things that we feel are taboo.....but, these guys have many things that we hold dear. Solid axle swaps, good quality shocks, Big tires, and last but not least.....I bet they use them more than the ridiculously lifted full size trucks here in California. These things could actually fit on a trail.

I just get sick of people bashing someone's truck when they ask a question, whether it be about Hawain stuff, Long Travel, or "cowboy butts drive me nuts" stickers.

Definitely a different "culture" out there, eh? If I may ask, what's the purpose for going so high? It doesn't appear to be tire related - is it just the you do things? Just an honest question.
