Can anybody tell me how to get at these front speakers? I need to replace them. This is a 1993 Ext. Cab fully loaded Pickup. I replaced the back speakers already, just can't figure out how to access the front speakers.

Unbolt amd unscrew the hardware that holds the dash panels, it will be easy then.

I think newer models are simmilar to the 86 that I have. To do that, on the passenger's side the speaker grille comes off with two screws. You may have to take off the kick panel to get at the lower screw, but it should be on a tab sticking out of the bottom of the grille on the edge nearest the door. The upper screw should be visible if you open the glove compartment. For the driver's side, you do have to take the entire lower driver's side dash off. They are always trying to hide screws so look around a bit and try to get that lower quadrant loose. Be careful, don't break it by missing a screw, just take your time and watch for switches and stuff in the panel that might be connected to the dash harness.

I put a pair of 4" Pioneers in my 4Runner about 10 years ago, but they blew a few years back and I haven't replaced them yet. My head unit started acting up after some bad CD-Rs shed their foil inside it so I pulled my amp and subs and haven't even listened to music for a couple years now.

 

Thanks guys, that worked perfect Now I can listen to some quality tunes. I just ran a sub box off the rear speakers and believe it or not, it sound pretty damn good with just the stock hear unit.

FYI, I put some Memphis speakers up front in my 4Runner, they sound GREAT.

 

Pioneer TS-1018 will bolt directly in and use the same plug. Definitely not high end, but they are 2-way and sound pretty good with no modification. I've had them 10 years and still saound good.

has anyone just directly replaced the 4 inch speakers in the ext cab pickups that have the premium sr5 sound system...the ones where each speaker front and rear is in its own molded plastic, ported enclosure..i know that the pioneers and a couple of others will fit directly into the fronts but i want to know if the same will fit into the rears...

 

I have the same system. The rear speakers are a bit larger. Actually it looks like you can fit a 6"x9" replacement in there .... possibly. Maybe somebody can varify this???

 

the way the rear speakers are in my ext cab sr5 there is no way a 6x9 will replace what is currently in there...im trying to retain the factory molded plastic enclosure, b/c its a ported tuned enclosure that actually sounds pretty good considering...its got great design to it...i just need to replace the drivers in it...im not exactly sure if any will drop right in like they will in the enclosures in the fronts...will post some pics this afternoon to show what im talking about...
