4wd dash light on whith key?

Does the light on the dash for the 4wd light up when you turn the key on? The other light do but mine dosen't.

I have also pulled the switch from the front end and had the wife watch when I punged it in no light grounded or not. Switch has continuity. Do I have a bad bulb?

Thanks

On my 94, I have to have the truck have all accessories on to have the 4wd light show up.

Are you asking if it comes on as part of the light test that is done when you first turn on the key? Or are you asking if the key has to be on for it to light up when the x-fer case is in 4wd? Because with my 91, the only time the light comes on is when the key is on and the x-fer case shifter is in 4wd. So, I don't think it comes on as part of the initial light test.

Thanks ,

My question is does it come on with the light test? Also can I test the light by taking the switch from the axel and manualy pushing it and having someone look for the light on the panel.

Thanks

Neither of my 4Runners had the 4wd light come on with the light test. To test the light unplug the connnector and with the ignition on you should have +12 V at the green/red wire. If there is ground that wire and the light should go on.

It doesn't come on with the light test; only when the shifter is in 4WD. Neither my '94 nor my '88 come on unless I'm in 4wd.

The switch is in the transfer case.

You didn't say whether the light is not working at all, but I'm going to assume that that is the case.

When I've had that problem with my '90 V6 truck, it has always been a connector that came apart on the driver's side of the engine, over the front axle. Usually one part is dangling under the truck. Since the connector doesn't clip, any more, i put it back together, and then run a small nylon zip-tie around both parts of it. That fix usually lasts a couple of years, before the zip tie gets too brittle.

I hope that helps.

The wire from the indicator switch near the shifter pulled from the plug. Re-inserted it and we have 4wd again. Thanks for the tips and advice.
