what's up everybody, I am new to these forums. I live out in guerneville, ca and recently we flooded. I drove my truck into some water and before i could even go very far the whole thing shuts off. Luckily a dude in a pre 90s 4 runner rolled up and pulled me back out of the water. The e-brake and charge lights came on together which makes me believe the alternator got fried. Does anyone have any experience with this situation. Thanks for the help.

 

sorry to post again, but to be honest the water maybe fully submerged my front tires, but it wasn't very deep, It isn't like I was floating down a river.

 

Pull it out and bring it to an autoparts store, they can bench test it and tell you whether it is good or not. Hopefully you didn't suck water into the engine or anything like that.

 

alright thanks for the tip, It is a fresh alternator anyways so it should be covered by the warrarnty.

 

even if it was the alternator you should still be able to runn off the battery and or jumper cables.

If the truck doesnt run its likely that its something else.

 

What could prevent enough power to turn over, it has power to run all the electronics, the car wouldn't turn over after trying to jump it with a big cummins diesel battery but you can hear it trying to go, it just can complete a single turn over, no spark?.

 

Pull out the spark plugs and crank it over. If you get water out the holes, you sucked water and are/were hydrolocked. If at low engine speed when you stalled may be ok, if high engine speed may have ruined the engine.

Son did it twice with his 22 RE. First time had to replace the rods (bent bad), second time threw a rod. He decided he can't afford to play in water.

 

that cummins was a 12 volt right??

 

Even in dual battery setups the cummins runs off of 12v batteries.


It sounds like your hydrolocked...or fried the ECU somehow. Did the engine die when the charge and brake light came on? If not try charging the battery overnight and then go.
