cluster swap problem

cluster swap problem

I found a new cluster for my 94 truck at a local yard. I Guess its an sr5 cluster (dont know much about yota options). I installed it and it works great, now i have a tach and i was able to adjust my idle finally!.

In the upper left hand corner there is a oil pressure gauge and upon turning on the truck the needle spikes, then comes down and sits at low until i turn off the truck again. Do i have to modify my truck to accept this guage, is the wiring off? is there a sensor to check?

yes sr5s use a actual guage... not an idiot light like the lower models... if the sneding unit is not replaced post haste, you will fry the guage if you havent already.....

you need to get the sending unit for the oil pressure guage on an sr5 equipped truck and replace your oil idiot light sending unit

so just go get the sr5 oil pressure unit. does it use the same harness as std one? where on a 22re is this unit located?

Their is two sending units at the parts store, one with light, one with gauge. You need the one with a gauge since that is the one you have now. The sending unit is right next to the oil filter, you can't miss it!! Usually a big socket like 21mm or bigger I think to take it off but dont quote me on that. I prefer to go to Toyota when it comes to sending units since I have used aftermarket and they worked a little differently when it comes to reading.

i have been reading that if you havent already started using the new guage with the proper sender, that your guage is now screwed up and will never work properly

Really? On my 87 I got a SR5 cluster from the yard and pluged it in and the light stood on and that it. So your saying it is fried for the oil gauge?

i think the gauge still works it peaks and goes to 0 everytime, so i dont think its burnt out

sometimes it will burn them up not all the time. so its a good idea to pull the oil sending unit wire so it wont burn it up. another thing that i have done because the sending unit is $$ is used a ford unit which is a lot cheaper just need to get the fittings to make it work and, it seems to read better.
