21mpg normal for 2wd 91 toy truck?

hey guys i got a 91 std cab. 2wd toyota truck in excellent shape, only has 98k miles. I've been calculating the gas mileage lately and im coming up at 20.8 mpg. I drive 80% city 20% highway and drive pretty easy. This seems a little low. I have heard stories about these trucks getting more like 25 mpg in the city. Anyone got a truck like mine with better gas mileage? thanks..

just checked the air pressure in the tires and they were all below 20 psi. Didn't even look low? Anyways could i gain 1-2 mpg raising to say 35psi?

Go by the manual, not what the sidewall states. The sidewall will give you a maximum pressure for the tire itself. The manual will recommend a pressure for the tire/vehicle combination that works best for the vehicle. You may also find tire pressure information on the driver's door jamb.

21 is definitely low for all-around driving. then again, i know the older trucks were rated at like 23 city, 31 highway.

would 19 psi tire air pressure cause a big loss, 2-3 mpg?

Why not fill up your tires to 30 lbs and see what happens to your gas mileage? 19 is really low.

after inflating the tires to 32lbs I can't believe the difference in mpg, i just calculated it and have gained an honest 4mpg increase over before!! I now get 26mpg with mixed city/hwy driving. Check those tire pressures!!

My '89 2WD 22R 4Speed (with unbelievably high gearing) got 20.00000000000 MPG EVERY TANK both before and after the lift. If you went 200 miles, it would take 10.000 gallons. It was truly amazing.
