Thinking about getting a new air intake to add some power. What do you all think? Any particular one to get. I was looking at the K&N FIPK kit. Any reason not to get one. All your input would be appreciated.

 

they are quite expensive, however they are 50 state legal

 

I have a Downey complete kit with chrome air tube and everything needed to instal. Goes on very easy. its for a 3.4L V6 selling it for 150.00 included is the oil and the cleaner. gives an awsome throaty sound to it and I did notice an increase in gas mileage. im located in socal.

I run the stock airbox with the elbow mod and deckplate mod done. I use an Amsoil foam filter and an Airaid MIT intake tube. I am very happy with the setup. The "bling" from the FIPK or other aftermarket intake was not a factor and I wanted better filtration than the K&N offered. I could care less about the extra noise the K&N puts out. I wanted function and extra HP---I got it.
Not to brag but if I can get over 300 RWHP and 21+ MPG on the highway with a modded airbox-----who needs to spend all that money on an aftermarket intake?

Thanks for the advice. I didn't even think about searching earlier. Just thought some of you's would have some good advice. So far the replys have been good, but will check out some old posts.

And I am not looking at this for the bling. I want the performance. More hp and better gas milage is all I need, but the deep throaty sound is good too.

 

The deck plate mod by far is most recommended since it's cheap, simple, and effective. Why waste $100+ on a kit when you can just spend a few dollars and make some true gains. Also when 4wheeling then you just put the cover back on and not worry about water getting inside. When on the street then take the cover off and have a few extra horses literally but unscrewing the cap. Myself I have a custom intake kit, but if I had to do it over I would have done the deck plate mod.

 

Thanks for all the tips. After reading a bunch of posts I think the K&N kit is not for me. Why waste the cash? and if I want to add the S/C down the road, I wouldn't want to lose hp. Thinking deck plate mod and/or possibly taking the elbow intake out.

Also, to anyone who has taken out the elbow intake mod. Do you know if that would hurt the installation of a snorkel, or do I need the elbow intake to attach the snorkel?

 

Are you planning on doing any deep water crossings? If not I wouldn't waste my time or money on the snorkel. If you do plan on some water crossing then you definitely want to check out the "differential breather mod" to keep from blowing axle seals but it's also good for non deep water crossing as the breathers can get plugged often. Are you ever planning on doing any creek crossings or high water crossings. Sometimes you know in advance when in the woods, but when you are exploring some trails, sometimes it just happens.

Also I think I am going to do the deck plate mod. Seems the simplist/easiest/cheapest and best for my plans.

Earlier today I amost threw down some cash on a new intake, but with some help from all of you and searching Yotatech and the web, I am not going to do that.
