Free alarm mod

Does anyone know if you can do the free alarm mod to a 2000 4Runner? All I have heard about are 03 and 04 Tacomas and some Tundras.

Any help would be appreciated.

My girlfriend just got a 2000 SR5 Sport edition and it has factory keyless entry. I have heard that some newer models are already wired to have the alarm if you disconnect a wire under the dash. But, I cannot find the wire on the runner so I was wondering if they did not do this at the factory till later.

Thanks, Jason

I dont think this is correct..............you'd need the brain for sensors(starter kill, glass sensor, etc.) I had to buy a new separate alarm by toyota(RS3200). $90 off ebay was worth the money for simple plug-n-play alarm

on the rs 3000 remotes, you can program the bottom button to work with another vehicle that has an RS 3000.

Some toyotas come prewired for you/dealer/us to install an alarm system. This means that all the wires have already been tapped into and all the pertianant wires are held together. One ofthese wires has a clip that if you pull off interrupts the wire, doing this interrupts the start from the ignition, and is meant for alarms with starter kill. That is where you are hearing about pulling a wire for an alarm. (You still have to buy an alarm and all the associated goodies, and then have it installed)

I didn't have to buy anything for my taco-just pulled the connector apart and bingo. The only thing missing is the blinking led.
The tutorial was on this site, but I can't find it now. Anyone know where it went? I'm sure Toyota wasn't too happy about not charging me $300+

I know think of all that money you would save by not having to buy a alarm!

It's not like a siren alarm. It just basically activates the panic button, but I'm not one to complain.
