sup yotatech, can you help me clarify how to read tire size.
what is:

LT285/75R-16 10 ply

what is LT?
what is R ?
what is ply?

33 x 12.5R 16LT

what is R?
what is LT?

LT=light truck
R=Radial
Ply=how many plies are in the tire construction, more plies means it can handle more weight

R=radial
LT=light truck



just an FYI almost all tires sold nowadays are radial... very few are biasply as they ride like butt on the street

thanks for clarifying. oh one more thing, what is the difference between the 2 tires.

LT285/75R-16 10ply and

33x12.5R16LT

 

285/75/16 = 32.8x11.2

 

the difference is one is set in metric and the other that is in inches is not

 

and the 285 is generally an inch narrower than than a 33x12.50

other things may be different too, you have too look up the spec for that particular LT and see what the ply rating is, the load range, heat range, etc... Tires aren't simple.

 

but not rocket science if you know what and where to look
