freeing a rusted lock?

i have my hitch cover locked in using a hitch lock thing.

well it came with a plastic cover over the key-hole side that fell off due to the harsh winter. as such, it has now rusted so badly that i cant get the key in! ive tried scraping with a swiss army knife and i still cant get the key to turn.

is there a fluid or solution i can spray on/in there to kill the rust and free the lock up?

thanks!

I'd try soaking it in the usual stuff - PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench. Spray some in there, rap it a few times with a hammer, spray a little more. Do that for a couple of days and see if it comes loose. Otherwise you might have to drill out the lock or cut it off.

If you can get your hands on some Kroil, that has worked very well in the past for me on locks, rusted nuts/bolts, etc. Let it sit for a day or so. Good luck!

yep, happened to me last week, I sprayed pb blaster in and was able to hammer the key in (bad mistake) cuz I couldn't get the key out, ended up breaking the key trying to turn it and getting the end part stuck inside the lock. I'm just gonna cut it off
