What would be the best locker for me?

I KNOW I KNOW SEARCH! well i have and it has given me good info. But i would like to know what one FOR MY RIG!

Its a 1st gen 4runner. IFS, 33s and a DailyDriver. What locker would you suggest? im on a tight budget mind you. Also, what is better in the front or rear? I will have them in both eventually. But for the time being. Is it better to have the front or rear locked?

lunchbox. i DD mine with the lunchbox and i have no complaints

Lockright in the rear would be the cheapest, Toyota electric conversion or ARB would be the best in the rear.

i am (well, will be) in the same boat re the choice of lockers. anyone have any info on whether a combination of lunchbox type front, ARB rear, would be a workable combination? has anyone noted unexpected wear on rubber or IFS steering components as a result of automatic lockers in front?

I haver an aussie locker in the rear of my rig (IFS, 33's) I don't use it as a daily driver anymore, but I do use it around town on the weekends and I would have no reservations aboput it being my daily driver.

I would do the rear first for a couple reasons:

-I rarely lift a front tire
-I always lift a rear tire
-I don't want to wear out my cv anymore than necessary
-I don't want to change my steering characteristics in 4WD

So far I haven't found the need for a front locker with my kind of wheeling. I like rutted, twisty, off camber trails. I probably won't lock my front, but what's stopping me if I change my mind.

My advice would be to throw and aussie in the rear and wheel it. If you get stuck, then do the front.

To me the expensive part of ARB's is mostly the compressor, if you're going to get one at all, just get both.

An auto locekr in the front will be un-noticable in 2WD on the street, but it would be nice to turn off the locker and keep it in 4WD on some trails. Just my opinion.

If you have (or swap to) manual locking hubs on the front, then it makes no difference what you have up front when the hubs are unlocked.

the arb pricing is...

front locker ~$680
rear locker ~$680
compressor ~$200

I know the compressor is not the most expensive part, but it's what makes an ARB install expensive. One locker will cost you 880.00!!!!! Once you've done that Might as well just do the front, ya know. If you're going cheap...be cheap 250.00 a locker for lunchboxes. If you're gonna mess with ARB and can't affor both right away....do the rear wheel it and when money is cool get the front done.

You don't *have* to use ARBs compressor. I used my existing OBA compressor for my ARBs. It worked fine and all it cost me was a few pipe fittings to plumb the ARB solenoid valves into my existing system. Some folks run their ARBs off a PowerTank as well.

the only thing you have to be careful of is using the ARB's on a OBA system that's more than 90 psig. get too far above that and they can start to blow o-rings. cheap fix is a regulator before the solenoids.
