dont those crappy 99 fogs get all corroded quickly? I think thats what my years on this forum have recollected.

there are aftermarket options but i cant recollect which ones! try a search on "99 fog lights" or "99 aftermarket fog lights"

mine are sold, but I never had a problem with any corrosion or any other problems. They worked perfectly and only were sold b/c i installed an ARB bumper

I bought the Toyota fog light kit for my 2000 SR5 back in 2002 and they corroded after only about 4 months. Hella sent me replacement lamp assemblies and they've been fine for over 2 years. The rep from Hella stated that the assemblies supplied for Toyota (per the Toyota specs) were a poor design but that was what Toyota insisted on at the time. He didn't know at what point in time the Toyota kits were upgraded to the better lamp assembly.

There are plenty of places on the 'net to get the kits. Trying to be sure if you're getting the better lamp assembly is the problem. I don't recall seeing any identifying markings differentiating the two.

 

Yes, the Toyota ones are known to corrode after a short time. The problem is when Toyota decided on foglights on the 99+ model, they called Hella and said, build us a fog like for say, ex. $100, and make it work. Well, when a manufacturer does this, you don't always get the same quality as an actual "aftermarket" item. This happens a lot today in the automotive world. An auto manufacturer can say we want this navigation system to do this, this, and this, and it can't cost more than $500. This is where quality starts to fall.

I have an aftermarket set I can get that is on my website with all wiring and brackers to fit that does work well and won't corrode.

I think it's interesting that nobody seemed to acknowledge the fact that there are two completely different manufacturers of "toyota" fogs for 99-02 models.
Stanley makes the real factory fitted lamps that came on limiteds and sport editions. The dealer installed versions are the Hellas, and they weren't available until sometime in 2000 for purchase as an add-on kit. They look almost identical to the stanley lamps, but the Stanley lamps DO NOT have a problem with corrosion, water entry, or lamps blowing prematurely...they also had a ridiculous price tag which is what prompted the Hella kit to be implemented for add-on kits.

Just go find a Limited and look at the lens and you'll see STANLEY stamped on there, plus the lens design is slightly different than the Hellas. You can also call your dealership parts guy and ask how much the replacement lamp is for a Limited 4Runner is--they'll give you a very expensive quote because they'll be quoting the factory-spec Stanley lamp rather than the post-factory Hellas.

I have the PP ones and they are pretty decent. They fill up the factory spot just fine and are much cheaper than the OE ones. I paid $150 and it was a pretty easy install. BTW, they are Hellas...
