?? On TC long-travel kit.

I was just wondering this, but:

For the Total Chaos long travel kit, you need modified tundra axles. Now, the tundra axles im guessing are longer, to accomodate the increased travel and increased width of front end from the longer A-Arms.

I wanted to know... What modifications need to be done to them, to fit on a 4runner/Taco??

Is the tri-pod bearing different? W

Whats the difference between the axles besides the length?

The Tundra CV's are a true constant velocity joint not a tripod like on Taco's. They are much stronger! If you have ADD then a set of stock Tundra CV's will plug right in. If you have manual hubs then ORS can make a custom set like the ones we have on our Tacoma.

The only mod that needs to be done either way is trimming the inner CV boot mounting lip off and using a larger diameter heavy-duty boot that will slip over the outside ø of the inner. This will provide the extra articulation needed safely.

You should also speak with Bruce TS if you have specific questions. He has a TC front end Including the steering set up.

Alot of people say that the T100/Tundra A-arms are longer but after looking at a few at the wrecking yard it looks like they are not and the axles are longer because the diff is the same width as a 4runner/pick-up/tacoma, and they need to be longer to mate to the diff?
Thanks

914runner is right. Tundra arms are no longer than regular arms, as far as I know. That is why total chaos and jd fab allow for the use of these long travel kits on t-100's as well. When a tundra or t100 gets long travel the axles need to be lengthened.

You guys are both correct. The components (a-arms/spidles/etc) are the same, it's the CV's that are the primary difference.

I have always wanted to put a T-100 body on a truck frame with a long-travel IFS kit and full-width rear axle. The T-100 body would cover the additional width without fiberglass.

That's a good comparison pic Bruce.

We also have some pics on our website in this article.

Sean that T100 body/pickup frame idea is pretty cool. I never thought about that. But would the frame line up with the mounting points on a t100 body? I imagine the t100 frame is wider. Cool concept any-way.

So, to go off my previous question....

For strength purposes only, would it be wise to install Tundra axles into a ADD 4runner? What are the downsides? Would they work w/o installing the long-travel kit?

Why dont people do this more often to their IFS taco's and runners?

It would not work because they are longer than your 4Runner axles. The reason the LT kits use them is becaus ethe A-arms are longer, so a longer CV is needed. I suppose you could use them but it would require probably extensive mods to the axle.
Thanks

Grrr...

Okay, I kept on thinking you guys were saying: The Tundra/T100 axles are the same length, and they WERENT longer... But, you were really saying that the ARMS arent longer.

Misunderstanding. It makes sense now to me

could you put a Tundra inner joint on a taco axle to get rid of the tripod, or are they different?

Total Chaos....usually associated with the "best" long travel kit around.
