so after driving home and back i have realized that the throw on my shifter is huge and really anyoning especially after driving my girl friends jetta and my buddies wrx with a short shifter. I was wondering if anyone makes a short shifter kit for our 4runners or if it would help having the shift lever cut down and rethreaded.

cutting it is the easy way around, the best way is to move the whole system up therefore giving more leverage on the internals.... wait im rambling on, lc engineering makes one, check it out.

Cutting and rethreading will not only reduce your leverage, but will also screw up your shifter geometry. Don't do it.

 

k saw the lc thing thats cool but which will make a bigger difference? include price into the factor (having it cut and reathreaded will be max 50 bucks or so)

 

how will it change the geometry it is staright from where it corves to the top a good 5-8 inches thta ican see taking off like 3-4 inches shouldnt make much of a difference

 

A body lift will shorten the height of the stick, so to speak.

 

but i dont want a lift if anything im gonna drop it an inch when my new wheels come in

Short throw? I want more throw! My first car, a 1971 Volvo 142 Coupe had a four speed with a shifter that was nearly two feet long. It was like driving a tractor....I miss that car......sometimes.

I have theirs for the trans and tcase, and love them. Well worth the $ and cheaper than the others anyway.
But, if all you want is to shorten the lever (it doesn't make much difference in the shifter throw really, just makes it shorter) just pull it and ask a welding shop to shorten it. They say you shouldn't do this, but if the suspension components are welded together I think the shifter will be fine... Mine is welded, the previous owner put the 3" BL in and lengthened the shifter 3" (2 welds) So after the short throw install, it was too tall, so I cut out 3" and welded it again. (different spots though...) Just be sure they don't get it hot enough to melt the glue holding the outer upper section in place or it'll come apart.

Works very well, makes it easier to reach the forward gears without leaning up out of the seat back while driving.
