Death Valley assistance

I want to do Death Valley sometime this year so anybody that has done this before if you can give me some info I would really appreciate it.

First would JUly be OK to go or will it be way too hot?

I'm planning on spending a weekend and would like to do some trails. I have a 4th Gen RUnner with 2" lift and slightly bigger Revo's the tires are still P rated although they have a higher load rating than the stock highway tires. WHat trails should I be able to make without damage (still have to keep running boards till I can get sliders)? I will try to get some Yotatechers to join before then, but which trails will be OK alone and which requires more than one vehicle? Will Lippencot Road be OK?

Any sites other than the normal ones listed on the park's normal map that will be worthwhile seeing? I definitely want to go to the Racetrack.

Lastly anybody interested in joining? I will probably plan to stay at Furnace Creek Ranch Friday and Saturday night (maybe even SUnday night). I will driving in from the Bay area.

Thanx for any info

First off, July will be bloody unpleasant, so bring a ton of water.

Second, though it's not a very technical trail, Titus Canyon is a fabulous drive.

The Racetrack isn't technical either, just a whole lot of wa-wa-wa-wa-washboard abuse.

If you have another vehicle or two with you the options open way up. DV is a HUGE area, and it's very simple to get yourself way the hell out of normal traffic if you break down.

Do a search for Death Valley... Someone had a great writeup of their trip and trails a while back.

Terry Johnson, our club pres knows the place pretty well, I'll get you his email address when I get home.

Yeah, his email changed back in Jan or Feb so I wasn't sure if he had changed it here.

Thanx for the input guys.

Steve I did go through your post on the trip, looked pretty good. If you can send me the email I would really appreciate it.

Yes, I think Sept/Oct might be better to go. July will be good to get some great temp though

I might rather do the High Sierra region in July and wait till Sept or Oct to do Death Valley then. But it is always a good time to start doing homework for a trip.

Hello Everyone,

Death Valley has some tolerable spots, even during the heat of Summer. In the rural West side of the park, there are a few easy trails, go up to Mohogany campground where it's temperate and there's pano views and bristlecone pines. Teakettle Junction can be a fun jaunt.

There are hotsprings in Death Valley as well, but those can be crowded by the clothing optional types. If you like a good soak in a more developed setting, there's nice hot springs in Tecopa. If you happen to be hungry and are going through Baker, try the Mad Greek restaurant, it's affordable and good.

I went to Death Valley during July a few years back, we stopped off at Badwater. It was so hot, it melted the soles of my shoes, so be sure to bring more than one pair

Cheers,
Illiana

BTW, don't go until October or November. It will be much nicer. You may actually be able to get out of the vehicle...
