Anyone Want To Do Some Simple Fab Work?

I have been on a quest for a rear tire carrier that uses a hitch for a while now. I have determined that store bought ones will not work, alone or when combined.

I also tried contacting NVARSTK to make one but have not gotten replies from email or PM. The only other person I know that can weld recently went blind as well, (he was 81).

I could do all the measuring and draw precise plans in 3 view and specify the matterials. The basic idea is a bar that is hinged at the bottem, has a wheel hub mock up on it as well as a cross bar lower to mount a Jerry Can and a 60mm ammo can on. Also, I will supply a weld on shackle hanger. Everything is pretty simple really. I would be willing to pay good money (~$200) for one. Matterials are estimated at $55.

If anyone is interested, PM, Email or respond on the thread, I will get back with you. Thanks in advance.

you might have better luck with this, with a local welder. The one I got from NVASTRK, I'm having modified to have a better deparcher (sp?) angle, move around less, be a bit stonger to hold a 33", or 35" tire. It was a good starting point though.

Also you would save shipping costs, and have a more custom fit. I should have details/pics by next weds. If all goes to plan ...

I don't know if your fwy the same as here in So. Cal but....
with that setup, it's gonna vibrate a lot. You only have a single point attachment. When you go at high speed on the frwy, the frwy ripples gonna shakes it which inturn shakes the whole truck.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I have tries looking for a local welder but there are non, only welding repair shops.

As far as the rettle goes, they make anti rattle brackets and hitch pins to cure this, they work too.

If it rattles a bit, I wont mind, I'm just like that I guss.

Forget the anti-rattle brackets. My spare on the Rockware shakes like a Polaroid when I hit big bumps.

I think the results would be better going to the roof, the rear cargo area or going whole hog on a carrier with bumper.

I'm getting a solid 2" bar, with square corners, then I'm having the welder place a bead on all four corners, and then sand it down as needed to make it a tight fit. That will hopefully reduce the rattle.

If yo look at most hitch recievers, they are hollow, and have rounded corners. Then you place it inside a square bumper reciever, of course its going to rattle.

Hopefully this will eleviate this problem.

I had a similer idea, fill the inside with a bunch of spray on bedliner and pound thw thing in with a sledge. I seriously dont mind some rattling, I don't drive that much because my school and work are within 5 miles of my house and during the summer my job only allows me to drive there and back one a week.

Still looking for somebody to weld...

You aren't looking hard enough for weld shops... Look here.

Other than that, if you really want to mount the spare somewhere other than the OEM location, put some heavy duty d-rings in the cargo area and strap it in there. You say rattling and crap doesn't bother you, it will.
