Good evenings. I have a question about a g52 transmission on a ln106-0156
Have anyone rebuilt a similar one?
My mechanic repaired my broken transmission. 5th gear broke down and the broken needle bearing damaged the surface of the countershaft. he replaced the 5th gear and countershaft with parts from a donor junk yard transmission and I bought the complete bearing kit from ebay to change all the other bearings and synchro.
My original counteshaft is the model installed using snap rings. The "new" donor countershaft is a a model which is not installed with snap rings, but with a nut and he didn't know the correct torque of the nut. He said that "he tighten the nut by feel according to how he felt the nut while disassembling the second hand donor transmission". He mounted the trans a few weeks ago and was almost finishing the whole job, plus other things like repairing the clutch, brakes, etc.
I was curious and search online. Just recently found an online manual which has that spec. He had no idea of the manual and he is an old school mechanic who does not take the time to research things like that, he knows by memory the specs of all the other common bolts in most cars due to his experience. The truck has not been tested yet. Which are the consequences of not fixing the nut and not torque it to spec?
