a FNG..please help locate parts
hey, I'm a new guy to the YOTATECH forums, and I need some help locating a few parts to get my '89 V6 std cab, short bed, 4X4 PU back up and running after sitting for an extended period of time..it was initially parked because over the years it had become a third vehicle, and in '03 the fuel pump had quit....fast forward a bunch of years and I've drug the truck (along with 5 more vehicles) and bunch of my stuff across the country away from northeastern NJ, and into southwestern AZ..so anyway I'm pretty much settled in the new digs now, and the other day I figured why not bring the truck out into the sunlight and see if we can get it going again, it should be a fun rig to play in the sand with, since both my Jeeps are set up more for rock crawling than sand blasting....
..so anyway I'm in the process of dropping the tank in order to replace the pump, and I've discovered that the many years of driving the salty NJ roads and many more just sitting in the driveway have caused a rusty bit of fuel line.. I had all the lines loose, the skid plate off, the tank bolts out and was in the process of lowering the tank to the ground when I heard something hit the driveway..it was the flexible line that screws into the fitting on the supply line coming out of the tank..
the piece of line that goes between the flex line and the filter has rusted through at the fitting (where it attaches to the flex line), and that fitting is rusted into the flex line and can't be removed...haven't tried any heat on it yet but soaking it in liquid wrench has failed so far..so I need to find the two pieces of line that go between the tank and the fuel filter...my return and vent lines seem OK, and from the filter forward, the supply line seems good, but if I have to buy a complete fuel line replacement kit, it won't bother me too much to have to spend the money on new lines
by the looks of it I'm also going to be in need of a set of long tube headers for it, as the NWOR set on it now, look like they will blow out when I get the truck running again since they're so crusty by the collectors...anybody making a good set of stainless or ceramic coated headers for the 3.0 liter V6 in these things anymore
and lastly..I've been back into the Jeeps (I traded my first CJ in for the Toyota back in '88) for the last15 years or so, and haven't kept up on the Toyota aftermarket...who's still around as far as parts availability? I used to use Downey Trailgear, and Northwest Off Road, they still around or has somebody bigger come along and pushed them out
thanks for any info guys,
Jim

Welcome to the forum indeed!
I lived in Yuma for nearly 30 years. Got stationed at MCAS Jan 01, 1980. Worked at the Aerostat after I got out. Hated it, but that's just me. I owned 2.5 ares. My property is still untouched from whoever bought it when I left. At least according to Google Earth. Sadly, they brought in a bulldozer, and stripped out ALL the vegetation, including some very, very old grape vines. Wish I had taken cuttings. Oh well.
I don't have any answers about where to get parts. I've stuck to either the dealership, or Rock Auto.
Don't trust the dealership in Yuma, BTW. They don't have a clue about our trucks, and unless you speak fluent spanish they won't want to talk to you anyway. Most businesses in Yuma are that way. Discount Tire on 32nd will bring in their friends, even if you've been waiting several hours. Most generic auto parts store employees will just stare at you if you don't speak spanish, like you're speaking Swahili or something. I know.
Welcome, again, anywho. I hope you get the help you need

hey 2ToyGuy, thanks for the welcome..
so sad to hear about the bulldozer treatment, where in Yuma was your property located?
thanks for the warning about the Toyota Dealership, but generally, I don't go to dealerships for much anymore, unless I absolutely can't find what I need elsewhere...and so far I've been doing pretty good at avoiding them.
I haven't noticed the thing about needing to speak spanish, but have really only had time to spend at Wallmart, Fry's, and Sportsman's Wharehouse so far and really didn't speak to anybody except for the guy behind the gun counter at Sportsman's...I have to make an appointment to hit the MVD this week for an AZ license and registrations, so I'll see how that goes.

I did the same thing over the last year that you are doing now. I used the LCE headers on mine. They're ceramic coated and look like they will last pretty well. I did have some fitment issues on the y-pipe, but they worked through it with me and made it right. I ordered tons of parts from the overstock toyota online site and the toyota parts deal site, and from Rockauto, and from Amazon, and from the local dealer, and used parts from car-part.com. Good luck with it! Don't forget to check and grease the hubs if it has been sitting for a few years.

found a pic of the NWOR headers and y pipe set up
yeah, I plan on changing every fluid, and lubing anything and everything that moves...I sprayed down all of the hinges and latches with WD40 dry lube spray today...being in the desert I don't rally want to use something like white lithium grease and have a bunch of wind blown sand getting stuck to it and turning it into something resembling valve grinding compound
I was also doing a little web surfing and found the flex line that goes between the tank and the hard line that attaches to the rear of the fuel filter, but had no luck finding that short piece of hard line itself
..also found I may be in the market for a new fuel pump hanger..at the moment the return line on mine is plugged with old gas that has turned into a gummy, smelly, brown gooey mess..I have it soaking in parts cleaner and I'll take the air hose to it tomorrow...just hope my injectors will still function, and aren't all gummed up too
I also have yet to really go over the fuel tank itself yet...I saw there was a little rust around the very outside edge of the seam and around both of the fittings at top of it, and one of the little brackets that hold the lines to the side of the tank had rusted off, but overall the outside seemed to be in pretty good shape..just hope it's OK inside as well and not all flakey...if it is, I guess I can always use one of the gas tank sealers that are available

where in Yuma was your property located?
Go as if you were going to the dog pound. Right where 1st St. turns into Ave C, there are two roads along the canal. One is access to the dog pound, the other goes to my property. In other words, the dirt road that runs along beside the canal, opposite side of the canal from the dog pound. Just follow it around the corner it turns, and go to the first property.
I don't know if they left my gates up, or my fencing around the property, but there's an old, historic looking house, falling into ruins slowly, just inside the fence-line as you go down the road, and two mobile homes near it, connected together in an "L" shape. Should be able to see the old house, and mobiles, from the road. Remember, this is the road that runs along the canal, but it's the field side, not the levee/railroad tracks side. If you look across the field, long way off (big field
), you'll see Britain's.The street address and numbers would be meaningless.
There's another property, right across a small side canal. Used to a major mobile home park, with the cheapest, oldest, mobiles you ever saw. When I was there, it was the biggest chop-shop operation in Arizona, as well as a major dog-fighting location. Oh yeah, it was a massive drug sales location, as well. It was the main reason I finally got fed up and left. I couldn't go out my front door without a side-arm, at least. Dogs and drugged out nuts all over. They tried to burn me out 3 times, but didn't quite make it. I think the people that bought my place bought it as well, and cleaned it out. I think. I hope...
Before I bought that, I lived in a mobile home park on 1st St, right across 1st from the radio station in an art deco building. TALL antenna.
Before that, there was a park at the corner of 1st and C, right across the street from the two roads that go along the canal. It's long gone, now. Just bare dirt/weeds.
Things may have changed since I was there, but there was a LOT of gang activity all through Yuma. Drugs and young girls coming into Yuma, money for them both going back into Mexico. Something to watch out for.

2ToyGuy, I'll have to ask my neighbor about that area...he's a police officer, so if it is still a bad area he'll know about it
if he says the area is OK now, next time I have my nephew out for a driving lesson we'll cruise through the area and see what's what

Cool!
The roads along the canal are dirt, but when they're dry, they're as good as pavement. On the rare occasions when they get wet, they're slicker than greased ice. Beware! They are colichi clay. Do NOT try them. I don't care how good you are, you going to wind up in the field, or the canal. Either way, bad.
If you want to try and drive on a wet dirt road, do it where there's room to go off both sides. You will.
I used to go down the road in 4LO 2nd or 3rd. Could take me a half hour to get 1/4 mile. I never went off the sides, though!. Thankfully, being Yuma, it's rare they get wet
I'm sure your police officer friend will know of the area. If it's no longer a problem, great, but he'll have heard of it, I'm sure. Heck, the cops decided to clean out the dog fighting once. Took all the available cops, AND all of the people from the dog pound. Ton of dogs.
Heck, they found a burned out car at the far end of the road, 4 bodies in it, one morning.
The people running the place heard about the psycho living next door, and left me alone. Someone got drugged up one day, and started trying to come after my wife. I came out my back door, in my underwear, waving a huge battle-axe, and went after him. They pretty much left me alone after that. The humans did. The dogs were a constant problem. I got to where I'd just shoot them and throw them in my dumpster. Cops would come by, take a report, and leave again. No trouble.
I found any number of illegals on my property too. Mostly peaceful. Some were even from mexico. Found many that were speaking something from the mid-east. Border Patrol know of it intimately. Never a dull moment. Heh...
I HOPE it's been cleared out, finally. Just wish they had while I was there. I might still be, although I really disliked the desert.
Welcome to Yuma! LOL!

well I'm not having any luck finding the hard line coming out of the back of the fuel filter and going into the flex line that connects to the supply line of the tank...may have to make a line up myself
..I would think going from the fitting on the filter directly to the tank with one piece of line would be better than going from the filter to the factory flex line..anybody know what fittings and size AN line I would need to make this line up?

According to another old thread, you are looking at 8mm line with a 14 x 1.5mm double flare fitting. That sounds about right. If I had to do it again, I would probably try to substitute a more modern type of filter and connection from a newer truck. Making the connections at the filter was needlessly aggravating.
