Change to synthetic at 1000 miles any problem?

Anyone see a problem with changing to Mobil 1 synthetic at the 1000 mile oil change in the 4.7 V-8? Then running 5K mile change intervals.

I hope not, 'cause that's what I did with my V6. Only thing I am doing different is I change the filter at 2,500 between oil changes, and top off if necessary. I see no problem with going 5k with Mobil 1, as long as you can keep it clean.

Porsche's and Corvette's come from the factory with Mobil1 in the engine.

How long would you guys go with dino oil between changes? I think I plan on now changing mine at 1K miles using the dealer and dino. Also do the samething at 5K miles and then go to Mobil 1 at the 8-10K mile mark using my friends automotive shop so I have a record of service for any warranty issues down the road. I looked at a couple of used Lexus LX470's that had the oil changed at 10K miles a couple of times before they hit 45K miles and then were traded back into Lexus (Lease cars) Then Lexus put them through their "Certified" program and sold them with the extended 3 year 100K mile warranty. Since it is the same engine that is used in the 4runner I figure doing several quick dino oil changes within the first 10K miles and then doing 5K mile changes with Mobil 1 synthetic should do the job. Thanks for your posts.

Sounds like ya have a solid plan. As far as intervals between dino oil I still am a believer in the 3000 mile oil change. Remember the best oil is clean oil.

Its true, but now even dino oil can go longer due to better filtration and additives. A lot of brands are recommending 5k miles now including toyota and ford. I'm gonna stick with the 5k miles especially since Im running amsoil and a superduty filter.

My dealer has a deal that if you use their dino oil and change it with them every 4 months or 4K miles the oil company will cover your engine for 100K miles it you have any oil rated failures. If you use the synthetic they cover you for 300K miles. I plan on trading at 90K so I might just do this with the dino.

Amsoil tech support recommended to switch to synthetic at the first recommended oil change (5K) for my Highlander. I changed the dino oil at 1K because I'm anal, then cut over to amsoil at 5K and change it every 5k to keep the Toyota warranty folks happy. I've considered extended drains on my Tacoma, but $20 for a oil analysis, a few more bucks and you have a change. So I change it at 5k. Then again, I'm anal about oil changes!

That's how I did it with my Tundra, 1K dino oil change, 4K dino oil change, 7.5K synthetic and it has been like that since, oil changes every 3000-3500 miles. I don't care what manufactor recommends, I do old school here and every 3000 is good for me.

My oil comes out translucent as hell, surprisingly, never had any car or truck do that at all. Yah there is a slight tint to the color but, still very translucent. Just recently got an oil change @ 20K miles and pulled the dipstick after 100 miles, looks like brand spanking new oil on the stick, no tint whatsoever. God, I love my truck!!!

I changed the oil at 1000, then at 5000, 10000 and soon I'll be changing it again at 15000, all with dino Mobil 1 5w30 Toyota recommends 5k so

My 03 ES300, I had the 1st oil chang at 5600 and I'll be changing the oil again at about 13000miles on dino, the penzoil the lexus dealer put in still look clean with 6500 on it.

:wtf: Did you use "Dino" or "Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic"? Your plan looks good but I was wondering if you thought Mobil 1 5w30 was Dino?

I use dino juice, the stuff they punp out of the ground, it is Mobil1 at least that is the name on the case, I buy it in BJ's wholesale club and use it, it comes in a case of 12.

Now I know everyone refers to M1 as synthetic but what do you call the non synthetic Mobil the company makes both

I still have several cases in my garage and when I use them up I may just start taking the cars to the dealers, 20 bucks for an oil change is nice and I don't have to get rid of the oil or I may switch to Penzoil or Castrol and just keep doing it myself for peace of mind
