I would like to add power door locks along with an alarm system to my 85 truck. I quickly looked around and found universal power door lock actuators that I believe can connect to an alarm system but not sure. Anyone have recommendations?
Not sure if others have invested in power locks but did some searching and eyeing a system on eBay. Its a basic Code Alarm system that comes with 2 door actuators. The system sells for $67.99 not including S/H. I dont need a fancy alarm system although I heard Toyota trucks are heavily stolen but just want some of the modern conveniences of remote entry. http://www.ebay.com/itm/120661221270?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Scroll down on this post >>> https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f198...l#post52225983 You could add factory electric locks if you wanted to from a parts truck or new if you can find them. The door already has the holes punched in it. The problem you will run into is that the main harness is most likely not wired for the Actuators. You could always power them from another source but I am not sure how to do that but some info to get you pointed in the right direction.
Your door assembly also has a place to mount the Actuator as well.

The basic universal kit you mentioned is sufficient if it makes a lot of ruckus when activated, and includes a starter kill function.
Then add your own separate fuel pump kill switch and you've got a second layer.
Hide an old phone with a pay as you go plan and constant power connection. Download the software for "find my phone" app, then when you send it a text it will reply with its GPS coordinates. Now you've got your own personal LoJack tracker. Third layer.
The more layers the better!

keep us posted if this ebay kit does work. My truck has the paint rubbed off in the "thumb" spot on the door from holding the handle up to lock the door. Vintage.
Will do. My truck is currently out being repainted and will not see it for a couple of weeks so will need some patience. I certainly do as I am missing my truck.
Finally got the power door locks and alarm system installed. Working okay although its only been one day so far. It was done professionally but can be completed on your own if you are a DIYer with a strong background in mechanical and electrical plus a few hours to needed to finish. Add in tj884Rdlx suggestions and you have one heck of a security system.
