1990 22re pickup coolant hose help!



hello


so I need to replace my coolant hose under the intake right behide the throttle body its a u shaped hose


so my ? is


how hard it it to replace that hose ?


please let me know thanks

You CIRCLE part 16261-35030. You WRITE your VIN on the piece of paper.

You take that paper to your local Toyota Dealer, and hand it to the parts guy. You tell him you think you need 16261-35030, but what does his computer show? You listen to how much it will cost and how long it will take to get it, and you compare that to $8.36 plus whatever to have it shipped to you. And you make your decision.

Scope, I imagine the rest of that would say that he removes the two clamps on the existing hose, pulls the hose off and puts the new one on

Basically, it is an annoying location but with aome patience you may be able to get to it without removing your plenum.

I found highlighting the price with an orange highlighter so they can't miss it always makes them question why they're charging so much.
It normally knocks a little off what they want to bend you over for unless you go to a ***** place.

I will often include the price (if the price comes from a place that I KNOW will sell it at that), but I never expect a brick and mortar store (a dealer) to match it. I try to avoid being a jerk about it.

I think my dealer has a "walk-up" price and a "independent mechanic's" price. (They probably also have an "a**hole" price, which I definitely want to avoid.) The point of my effort (besides getting the right part -- Toyota does move part numbers around a little, and a good counterman can really help) is to try to convince them that selling the part to me will be even easier than selling it to the mechanic.

And I've had good luck. I really like my dealer -- in Oakland, CA.

Remove the IACV that is attached with two 8 or 10mm bolts but leave everything attached, just tie it out of the way some and that will give you a little more room to install the hose. If you have the squeeze type hose clamps it goes on a little easier in my opinion. If you have worm screw hose clamps, it my be a little more difficult. I put a thin coat of WD-40 on the inside of the hose to help it to slide on to the pipe. If your pipes have rusty edges, clean it with a wire brush to make it easier to slide the hose on.

I know that they'll never match the price because of shipping but it usually gets them thinking. I never present myself in an in your face manner, quite the opposite. I've never been treated rude/badly or been given a dirty look when I visit the dealer.
I'm in a city with no Toyota dealers but I have three that are about the same distance away.
It doesn't doesn't matter what I do at one of them they won't come off of their price and they're usually the highest. Friends that have been there have had the same experience.

Speaking of hoses... I ordered all new heater hoses, 180 thermostat & o-ring, and a set of silicone radiator hoses. I'm skipping installing the heater hoses for now but want to have them just in case. I flushed out the radiator & block with the thermostat removed, put the new t-stat on with the LCE silicone hoses, fill it up with coolant and distilled water, and the gosh darn silicone hoses seep coolant at the ends through the reinforcement fibers. As soon as I saw them leak, I remembered a customer that had the same problem with silicone hoses. Still waiting for LCE to get back to me.

For anyone getting the silicone radiator hose kit. Don't use the cool looking hose clamps that come in the kit, get some regular worm-gear clamps. The included clamps run out of threads and bottom out on adjustment, making it seem like they're tight, but they leak.

That's strange, they're supposed to be a better clamp with more even pressure. Could they have possibly given you one size too big?

What was their response?

LCE said they had some problems with the clamps, but didn't specify what. They were drop shipped from Trail-Gear, so it must be TGs brand.
