I just bought this 1992 pickup at an auction in November. The motor is a salvaged 3vz-e. I am new to all of this and can't find a diagram or pictures with these vacuum lines. Who ever put the salvaged motor just capped the lines with screws. I am having issues with it losing power in higher gears and want to get these lines figured out before i crack into what i think are the causes.

 

#1 and #2 (same line) is supposed to be capped. It is NOT connected to anything.

If capped, neither of them will cause you to lose power. In any gear.

Curious, what are your symptoms? Losing power only in high gears sounds odd...Auto transmission? Reason i ask is because the engine doesnt run any different in 1st or 5th gear in manual, so losing power in 5th gear, your losing power in 1st gear as well. In an Auto, this might be different.

 

Each to his own, but I sure didn't get much out of that video. Redeth (at the time of the video) pretty clearly didn't know what any of the hose connections was for. (Pointing at the fuel return line, he says "and this hose goes to this injector," moving his finger to the fuel pressure regulator.)

I find you'll get a lot better information from the manual itself.

It's a manual. I've never driven this truck without the problems so i don't exactly know what normal should be. 1st gear feels fine, 2nd gear i start to feel a little loss in power but it accelerates, 3rd is the same, but when i go to 4th it feels like it wants to die and goes no where. I've never even tried 5th. I top out at about 60 MPH after it has gotten a chance to warm up and it takes forever to get that fast. After reading a bunch of threads on here i am thinking the cat could be part of the problem. I have already replaced the timing belt, pulleys, water pump, spark plugs, spark plug wires, TPS, and am going to replace the ignition coil, o2 sensor, and fuel filter and see how it runs with the cat off before i buy a new one. I did take the throttle body off and was really surprised out how much gunk was in the engine. It runs rich but not as bad as it did before i got the timing set. hoping to get this stuff replaced and run some sea foam through it.

 

Sounds like a weak engine. Hopefully it gets cleared up with the cat removal. I drove my truck a little before starting my swap but i had a rod knock. Hard to tell what full performance of the 3vze engine is supposed to be...Mine felt like it really flattened out 3rd gear on, similar to what you are saying.

 

So unrelated to my original post, but my truck just died on Sunday. Finally got around to taking a look at it and took the throttle body off to find a bunch of ground up metal pieces... not my lucky day. What does this mean?

 

I'm no expert on engines, but i am not a total armature either...but this...I dont know what's going on here...My best guess, you had detonation in the cylinder and it blew chunks back into the intake...The picture is kind of low res so i cant get a good look at it but it doesnt look good.
