Hi, I have another question about my water temp gauge and sensor. So here's my problem, my gauge temp always goes up to it being warmed up. Even at cold start. And the idle doesn't raise. When I disconnect the sensor on top of the throttle body the water temp gauge stays at warmed up?? Now is it the bottom sensor I need to check???

What year, model, engine, etc?

 

Mine does the same thing. Mine is a 86 pickup. Although sometimes it goes down and seems to be working properly (rising slowly after cold start).

 

85 4x4 pickup. 22re

 

Search 22RE temperature overshoot here and on google. A two stage thermostat may be needed.

 

My truck isn't overheating though. It's just the gauge, like I said, when I start my truck the gauge just shoots right up to right under the halfway mark, indicating that it's warmed up already. I obviously know its not warmed up yet. And my idle just stays at 850rpm. So maybe I'm having trouble with the cold start injector aswell. My idle isnt rough at all and it starts right up like nothing. And also I have another question, I just put an intake on my 22re and looked inside the intake manifold and throttle body and there's a lot of black mildue build up in it! How to I go along to cleaning the inside of my intake manifold????
Do I have to take it off to properly clean it or does someone know a sea foam trick to cleaning it out??! The concern I'm having with the sea foam idea is that I don't want all that gunk going through my injectors and so forth.... Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with my temp gauge. Pull the cluster out and tighten the screws to the gauge on the back.

 

Oops, I misunderstood the issue. Check the wiring on the temp sensor too.

In all my research, I've noticed a lot of confusion on what temperature sender goes to the gauge. I have confirmed it is the sender in on the intake manifold. Not the two on the side on the intake manifold or the one on top of the upper radiator hose bend or the one on the passenger side of the block.
I spent about 7 hours trying to figure this one out with no solution. I believe there is some short, but it's weird that the temperature always reads perfect. Wouldn't a short cause it to fluctuate with bumps in the road, or be higher than perfect operating temperature sometimes?
Removing the wire from the sensor didn't change the reading from the guage.

Pull the sensor out from in between cylinders #2 and #3 and give it a good cleaning or replace it if necessary.

Replace the Thermostat.

Tighten the screws on the back of the cluster.

Scuff the paint off door pillar for the ground screw down by the drivers kick panel next to the fuse box.

Make sure connectors at sensor, cluster and ground screw are good and clean. This will fix most but not all. I still got one that jumps half way up but it is accurate when warmed up.
