86 4runner Oil Light Stuck On!?

Hi guys, I just bought a 1986 4runner with a 22re. It used to be an automatic and the previous owner converted it to manual. It still has the automatic cluster.

My coolant temp is not working, and my oil light is stuck on...I have replaced the oil sending unit under the intake manifold and the light is still on. I have enough oil in it and it runs great...any clue to why it is staying on? Is it something related to the 5-speed swap? Or do I need an oil pump..?

Also, the 4wd lights or anything don't work on the dash. Don't know if the automatic cluster even has these. Am I supposed to switch over to the manual cluster(non-sr5)?

Likely to be electrical.
If you truly had no oil pressure, your truck would'nt run long.

Thats what I was thinking too...I drove all around town yesterday and it didnt have any issues, no clanking or smoking...seems to run just fine.

Where would I even begin to diagnose this?

Well I hooked up an oil pressure gauge to check it and I got 20 psi at idle and 60 at around 3000 rpms. Any ideas to why the gauge light is stuck on? Obviously my oil pressure is good...

Red face

Install the mechanical gauge and have peace of mind.

It seems the light has just a switch where the gauge has a sending unit.

Once the oil pressure drops below 4.3 psi the switch closes completing the circuit

Switch/ Sending unit

Wrong part for your light.

Someplace the circuit is going to ground lighting the light.

Simple to check with a meter
