89 4runner rear window wont go down

was working when i went to pick up womans treadmill. then went up fine.

Got home, tried to open window and got nothing. I have next to no space between end of treadmill and tailgate, i may have enough room to get the screws off the back panel.

Unplugged switch, gave it a tap reinstalled got nothing, gonna check fuse, but after that im kinda hooped, go no room what so ever to work with.

Need help anyway to get the window down so i can open tailgate and remove treadmill, then getting it closed again would be ideal.

Try to bump and push the tailgate with with the palm of your hand at the upper left corner of the tailgate, just below the glass, while trying to lower the window with the key switch.
There is a tailgate interlock switch there that might not be closing.

ok i will try that, was just contortated in the back for an hour. switch isnt pushed in by accident. ive had enough of these issues once i get it down think im gonna remove glass and screw a canopy lid with locking handles onto the outside. They are so unreliable.

Definitely does no good have a treadmill in the back giving me no room at all to try to check anything. got the back panel off, but all i can really do is lightly tap motor, unplugged the plugs but neither of those things did anything

If the switch for the rear washer is in the middle position I think that locks the window to. Make sure the switch is rocked back all the way.

Try cleaning your switch. Can you hear the relay behind the drivers seat clicking? Here is how I went and got mine fixed and other information>>> https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post51722787

Unreliable only if not taken cared of.

You did not check if motor even works when wired directly?

Not sure if yours is same as 86-88, but here's rear window schematic:

i am going to try clean the switch. i cant hear anything when the button is used. Not long ago i put power to the motor and it worked fine.

I wonder if that window relay box can be bought at a local parts store. I also think that too long of a bolt was installed where the bulkier roundish head needs to be used. i may be able to pop the rear panel off to check that switch in the rear panel to see if its deformed. Hopefully if it is its not completely toast.

Update to come after i can get some contact cleaner and stuff.

thanks for the links

is there anyway to get the rear window to go down manually? might have to smash the window as i dont have any room to work at the rear. once the treadmill is out then i have alot more room to work with, would just need a new rear piece of glass and a vacuum !

Do it Properly and Learn or Smash window and not learn a thing

Based on random info above, sounds like:
1) Door lock detection switch is saying door is not completely closed OR
2) Rear Wiper Retract Detect Switch thinks wiper is not parked all the way, OR
3) Rear window limit switch indicates that window is already down, OR
4) Motor just broke recently.

By Blue and Red wires, you mean pins 6 and 8 of relay? (Could be different from my 22RE schematic)

Which switch are we talking about? There are 8 switches in this system, some are manually accessible, some are limit switches which need to be accessed by removing tailgate panel or wiper motor cover.

Yes

might have to smash the window
Yes - If you're too lazy to do proper work and understand how the system works.

If you want to do it properly, refer to schematic (you may need to find schematic for your year-model because I only have one for 22RE-liable)...

a) Access motor and supply 12V directly to it, OR
b) Jump Pin4 directly to ground, OR
c) Jump pin 11 directly to ground

Pins 4 and 11 are "Down" direction switches. (b) and (c) bypasses top-off switch and door lock detection switch.

If (a) does not do anything, your motor is shut (or you do not really have 12V - LOL!)
If (b) or (c) does NOthing:
Check Rear Wiper retract limit switch.
I have not done measurements on this, yet so I hope other owners can chime in:

IF wiper is properly retracted/parked should pin 1 of rear wiper retraction detect switch have continuity (zero resistance) to ground?

IF rear window limit switch is open or close does it indicate rear window is all the up or all the way down?

If (2) or (3) Does work, either your door lock detect switch thinks door is not completely closed or locked, OR your top off switch thinks that top is off so it disables rear window control.

k got it down, will be able to get it back up. havent determined the issue but gonna do a thorough run throuh of the system once i get the treadmill out.

As for the wires, yes pin 6 and 8. one is blue one is red. The switch these refer to is the power window module thats screwed to a brace on driver side behind front quarter panel. Was able to move treadmill on its side and rest it up against my back, giving me enough room to get the plug off the motor and hook up jumpers to it and get window down.

Wouldnt have smashed the glass, just frustrating that its a finicky system. 3rd time its went from working to not working in the last year. in the middle of doing alot of things to the rig. should be alot better come end of summer/ fall

LOL!

Once you clear the space so nothing is preventing door from closing properly, and you can makes sure that limit switches are indicating positions & status accurately, system will be reliable again. Limit switches are there for the truck parts and your safety. Just like anything, the truck needs proper care. Just like abusing anything, abusing truck will also cause it to not function at it''s best.

I hope other owners can chime in on my questions above^^ re state of wiper retract and rear window limit switches. OR you can figure it our on your own and share it with the rest of us.

Cool.
Best if you could fins exact schematic for your year-model so we're certain of what we're doing.
