Randomly my truck starts pulling to the drivers side and starts hopping a little, almost like the tire is really bad out of balance. Yet if I stop or slow down and then speed up, it doesn't do it again. Happens whether going 25 mph or 65 mph. CV axles aren't torn, but I'm wondering if maybe the cold is causing them to bind up. They are at a bit of an angle from the lift. Any thoughts?

 

Actually, I had a brain fart. Can't be the CVs as I have manual hubs. Must be a brake caliper hanging up.

 

Or bearings, neither of which you want yo seize up while driving. Bearings should be serviced like every 30k or something like that - have yours?

 

Check the frontend over. Tie rods, pitman and idler arms, steering box, bearings, shocks, ball joints.

 

Not in 4WD?

Probably a bearing like CJM mentioned

 

Check your tire as well, had an F-SuperDuty do this several years ago, and turned out to be a broken steel belt in the front tire.

 

If it were a brake caliper still applying pressure you would smell the burning brakes after going 65 MPH if you then examined the vehicle.

I agree with CJM, an extensive visual inspection might reveal a torn boot or something else that's out of place. Grease splatter is also a sign of an issue.

Did you ever have the recall done on your vehicle regarding the steering? I think it was back in 2005...
