Talking Temporary tricks for disabling my truck , going out of town for two weeks

Im in the process of figuring out the best way to wire up a kill switch somewhere , but until then , what are some ways to render my rig unstartable / unstealable?

I have thought about :

Just pulling the battery out
Putting both t cases in neutral
Pulling the efi fuse
Chaining the rear axle to a redwood tree
Removing the steering wheel

Any other quick ideas ? I'll be leaving my truck out in my driveway for a few weeks while in Hawaii

Pull one of the wheels off and leave it on a jackstand or some blocks. I think I'd choose to pull one of the rear wheels. Be aware that if it's parked on a city street they can tow it for that though. My logic is that if someone who tow steals trucks doesn't have the wheels they can't easily tow it. I'd also deploy one of your other ideas such as pulling the steering wheel. And don't leave those parts inside the vehicle.

If somebody really wants it they will just hook up and tow it. Do you have another vehicle to block it in?

Set the park brake and maybe crawl under it and stick a vice grip on the cable or linkage so you can't release it. The handle in the cab will go in and just slack the cable but it should still not release.

Maybe lock the steering somehow? Put it in low/low, hubs locked, trans in reverse and pull the trans shifter?

If I lived in a bad neighborhood I would do all this and some of your ideas.

I like locking it to a tree or maybe another vehicle. Anything else, maybe a lamppost? Run a chain thru the spokes of a front and back wheel or even side to side. Just make sure it's obvious so some quick moving thief doesn't mutilate your rig while trying to speed away.

I just pulled the 15A efi fuse ,the truck immediately sputtered and did not start . I put it back in and it was a little sluggish to start , but did .

Anyway I could cause any sort of problems by repeatedly pulling the efi fuse ?

If you're removing and reinserting the fuse while the truck isn't running it won't have any negative effects on the truck at all.

You can also unscrew the safety switch under the clutch so it no longer engages with the clutch pedal pressed in, and disconnect the clutch override button on the dash. It won't protect you from towing, but it will keep the truck from starting without directly jumping the starter motor, I think.

Yea , I'm definitely not pulling the fuse with truck running.

On some more modern Toyota's , I read that fulling the efi fuse , or even turning an efi kill switch on or off , will 'reset the ECU' also ... bad right ?

But on our old stone age trucks , nothing is being 'reset' by pulling the efi , correct?

Red face

If I was worried about this I would take my Truck to a friends out of my bad neighborhood.

If they really want it not much you can do but discourage the 12 year old looking for a ride to the mall.

Living where the keys get left in and doors don`t get locked does tend to spoil one.
