Exhaust manifold studs and Helicoils

two of the exhaust manifold studs on my 22re 86 4runner are stripped out. I did some research on the forums and it seems that I can use Helicoils instead of retapping to a larger size. I also saw that they are 8x1.25? Coarse or fine thread?

Any idea where I can get the helicoils?

Thanks,
Eton

I hate to rain on your parade !!

The thread size is M10x 1.25

The 1.25 is the thread pitch

Helicoil is just a brand name of the first thread repair inserts .

Many more out there now .

If your local autoparts does not stock them they should be able to order them in.

Most all industrial suppliers have or can get them

you need the drill bit and the correct tap to tap your hole for the insert.

most often can come with the kit

Looks like the label says 5543-10 which would make it the Helicoil 5543-10 M10 x 1.25 Metric Fine Thread Repair Kit
.

There isnt really a coarse or fine with metric. It gives you the thread pitch (1.20mm, 1.5mm, etc.), which is all the information you need to know... with the exception of length, but that has nothing to do with the threads, where as the UNC and UNF threads (our stupid thread system) counts the amount of threads per inch.

Scratch that. I had never heard it called coarse or fine. Just match up the bolt size and pitch to what the helicoil inner size and pitch is, drill the required hole to the size specified by the helicoil kit, thread it, then youll be good to go.
