Are non-SR5 electrical harnesses the same as SR5?

Everything I've read implies that any harness will support any of the accessories as long as the right stuff is plugged into both ends of it. But, I can't confirm it.

I'm thinking of buying an '85 4Runner. It's in great shape and is very close to what I want, but missing a few of the options I'd like.

It's got manual windows with not vents, I'd like electric with vent windows
It does not have the inclometer, I'd like one
It does not have cruise control, I'd like to have it
It has the base antenna, I'd like the retractable on command antenna

Will the base model harness accommodate those parts?

I can't say for sure on your year of truck, but my 93 base model is missing a bunch of the connections for other options. Certain things will plug in, like air conditioning. But I'm missing plugs for the power antenna, and wiring for the tach. I have a bunch of other options to swap in so I was thinking on swapping in a new dash harness to make things easier.

Yes, I've seen that on later models, but I've never heard of a missing connector on the early models.

Has anyone ever found a missing connector in their harness when they were adding OEM options?

Not sure about those options but, my '84 pickup is a base model and didn't originally come with a clock. My dad insisted it had to have the connector for a clock somewhere in the harness. Sure enough, I removed the radio and there it was taped up from the factory. And presto! I have a clock!

I'm about to install the altimeter/inclinometer gauges on my 84 Standard model PU. It would be really nice if the plug for that is in the harness, but I don't think it will be. Mine has absolutely no options, not even a lighter, so I'll be able to tell pretty easily if there are extra connectors in there.

Hope to do it this weekend, so I'll let you know what I find.

The power window wiring is not there. Matter of fact, there are no holes for the harness to pass thru. Adding cruise is not simple. If you want all those options, I'd look for another truck.

Yeah, but where's the fun in that?

Yeah I put in a inclinometer in my truck as well and didn't really think of looking for a plug, but I don't think it had that connector. I just spliced into the wiring.

Thanks Rusto. Let me know what you find on your standard. And take a look at your door jambs to see if there is power window wiring there.
