90toy4x4 1990 pickup build-up

I was on the ford ranger train for a while. Traded my 07 xlt 4x4 4.0 MT in for a 2012 dodge journey.

Ive always wanted an old toyota with the 22re, searched for about 4 months on craigslist and found this beauty.

1990 Pickup
Auto 4X4 22RE
picked it up with 218xxx miles. PO replaced the water pump, timing cover with gears and chain.

Day one

Put some extra driving lights on it.
2 hella 500f

2 cheapo night hawk from wally-world that i used on the ranger for reverse lights

Scored a leaking topper from craigslist for $100

Removed the torn up bench seat and replaced with buckets from a 1991 Chrystler LeBaron.
Installed home made center console made out of plywood, wrapped in cammo carpet.
Installed switches in the console for the driving lights.
Installed uniden CB.

Looks like a great find! What are your plans for it? You might want to fix some of that cancer before it spreads

Plans are to keep it mildly stock. Need to find different seats or put the bench back in it. New tires, the ones on there now are chopped, junk, and oversized. Tthe tranny don't get along with the oversized tires and hills I have to take on the drive to work.
Eventually start replacing the front suspension bushings and shocks all around.

new rims and tires 235/75 15

Previous owner's "wheel spacers":

CB antenna mount:

started replacing the tinted bubble windows on the topper with clear lexan:

From left to right: clear lexan, tinted glass, tinted bubble lexan(i couldnt see through this in broad daylight!)

Also new brakes on the front, waiting for a good weekend without work to get new rotors on. seems like they will take me all weekend after a 3 day brake job!

Think i finally burped the cooling system correctly. temp gauge is now hovering in the up position, where previously it wouldnt move further than this:

Those wheel spacers... That's not just stupid, that's just downright unsafe. That one stud looked like it had two or three threads left on it to get a lug nut on. I've never been a fan of black rims, but those look really good on your truck. I especially like that you had the tires mounted with the white letters out

You're making some sweet progress!

your right on the amount of threads left on the lug bolt. it also would explain why i would get a grinding/clicking/vibration when turning a corner. it felt exactly like i had the hubs locked and in 4x4. i was extremely mad when i found those!
i have never been a fan of black wheels untill now, got the rims with the truck. they are originally the polished look, but they have been neglected. wire wheeled the clear coat off and 6 bucks worth of paint make them mighty fine for me

Sometimes what people would consider to be an genius/easy fix to a problem is simply stupid and then they get pissed when there wheel falls off doing 65mph on a highway resulting in there totalled vehicle wondering what went wrong. Some common sense and a little bit of situational awareness go a long way. Good luck with the build man, hope you dont find anymore strange ways to store washers.
