Build up or Rebuild?

I picked up a 93 Xcab about 2 weeks ago and the more I look in to it the more I find that it has been WET. I am getting a 89 Xcab that has a bent frame so it got totaled. 40k on a crate long block 22re, T-case and transmission were rebuilt around the same time. It has auto 4wd so I don't want that. What are some Ideas from people who have done a cab swap. Is it a PIA? I was thinking of doing a cab and bed swap to get rid of the rust problems. along with the engine transmission and T case. After its solid again then do gearing, armor, and lockers. more of a rebuild I think but that's why I named her therapy.

pics soon

frame clean up is a little. Not as bad as I was thinking. Doesn't even look like it has been wheeled at all. Although I just pulled a little more of the front end apart and need to do wheel bearings and cv's maybe tomorrow or next day. getting an exhaust put on tomorrow. 2 1/4 then when I do my motor swap I will install my NWOR header. I would do it now but its with my donor truck. and i haven't picked it up yet.

Any special CV''s to avoid or get?

thanks

Doing a frame swap is easy on a pickup. Here is a link to my 88. I have the steps, listed on post #88 on page 4. If you can pull a motor you can do a frame swap. Nothing to it. Any questions just ask.

Yea parts truck tomorrow!

I am pretty sure I am going to P/U my parts truck tomorrow. It is a 89 Xcab 22re automatic hubs (ADD I think?), 4x4 wanting to pretty much swap as much as possible, as mine has been very wet before i got it. I am keeping my manual hubs would like to swap everything else. The parts truck did get hit in the front end. I will post some pics probably Thursday or Friday of both trucks.

Here is my list of questions before I start.

What will be different between the 2 motors?

I have a NIB NWOR header for an 85 22re will that work?

Are there any differences between the front and rear diffs?

Wanting to swap motor trany. T-case. Should I try and pull them as one or separate them and take them out one at a time.

Can I pull the cab and bed off first to make R&R of drive train easier?

I am thinking it might not be a bad idea to go buy a lot of new nuts bolts ahead of time. Does anyone have a list of common size and thread pitch's to get?

I am sure I will have lots more questions.

Thanks

Jim

here are some overdue pics. I put in a photo bucket like since they seemed to big to upload from my comp to YT. The red truck is Therapy and the white one is the parts truck. I know the parts truck looks better than therapy but she got a bent frame when a car pulled out in front of her so now shes all mine to take apart. I plan on pulling the cab and bed off and getting all me prep work done first. Full power interior w/ac. Then pulling the new engine. 40k on factory replacement motor. . Redoing the seals and swapping the engine and trany and T-case if it will work as it has auto hubs. Think all I read here says it will work.

I have already swapped rotors and calipers.and done wheel bearings. The header in the pic is of a NWOR for a 85 22re. I think it should work. maybe. any input here would be awesome.

Thanks for all the help

Jim

This got moved to the newbie tech section and I lost track of it so I started a new build thread in the build up section. Here is the link. I think. I am better with a wrench than a keyboard.
